. Song to Remember, a
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
starring: Al Luttringer, George Coulouris, Michael Visaroff, Fern Emmett, Fay Helmdirected by: Charles Vidor
January 23, 1996
Hello to all. Yes I have this movie, I ordered it through Amazon too. I saw this movie too back in 1946 and as a young lad I was taking piano lessons too. I love the piano and still dabble when ever I get a chance to play. I truly enjoyed the movie and watch it now and then. Cornell Wilde did a superb job of portraying Chopin. I understand the part of Merle Oberon playing Goerge Sand was an actual character, who was a ghost writer in that period of time. It seems that women didn't get the recognition they deserved, so she had to make an appearance in public dressing as a man. I wonder what ever happened to the actor that played Franz List. The other actor George Colouris has played in a lot of movies and he has had a long career. All in all ... Read More:

August 11, 1998
Unfortuneately these "collectors" would not be complaining if they only new half of when ,why and where this movie was produced and released.........it was NEVER supposed to be released as The Sound of Music was being released in the same week. Also Florence Hendersons 1st ever singing review. Rhis movie ONLY a collector...for real collect buffs, its never been graded or even edited. Be happy with this original that you have as there are soooo many copies of that out there and even then they are VERY few and far between......... For us OLD folks these types of movies are all we have left of our good memories...... Please dont spoil it for others..... Respectfully Submitted.

. Hans Christian Andersen
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
starring: Danny Kaye, Farley Granger, Zizi Jeanmaire, Joseph Walsh, Philip Tongedirected by: Charles Vidor
April 01, 1992
I fell hopelessly in love with Danny Kaye when I was 8 years old, and I'm still crazy about him many years later. . . no other performer of whom I'm aware has ever shown his unique combination of comic virtuousity, tenderness, silliness, physical bravado and dramatic depth. He could also really sing, not just comically but straightforwardly, in his naturally rich, sweet lyric-tenor voice. If you really listen to the "Inchworm" song, you will hear just how fine his voice really was. The ballet sequences in the movie transfixed me as an eight-year-old ballerina wannabe. Maybe they look hokey to present-day grownups, but I bet most kids would immediately understand. One of the best movies ever!!!!

. Kiri Te Kanawa
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
from: Distribution Select
November 28, 1997
I found the sound of Kiri te Kanawa's voice here shocking. I think she sounds like an old lady - which was obviously because of the emotionally turbulent period of her life that she found herself in. If you want to buyt his Dvd for vocal beauty, dont! however, if you are prepared to make some concessions and enjoy the singing of one of the great female singers of the last 30 years - the musical art - then do. She has done better though!

. John Cage
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
from: Distribution Select
November 28, 1997
This 56-minute documentary on America's most controversial and unique composer manages to cover a great many aspects of Cage's work and thought. His love for mushrooms, his Zen beliefs and use of the I Ching, and basic bio details are all explained intelligently and dynamically. Black Mountain, Buckminster Fuller, Rauschenberg, Duchamp are mentioned. Yoko Ono, John Rockwell, Laurie Anderson, Richard Kostelanetz make appearances. Fascinating performance sequences include Margaret Leng-Tan performing on prepared piano, Merce Cunningham and company, and performances of Credo In Us, Water Music, and Third Construction. Demystifies the man who made music from silence, from all sounds, from life.

. Elvis '56 - Vhs
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
from: Koch International
August 29, 2000
Just when you thought it was safe to finally put away those blue suede shoes, along comes yet another piece of Presley paraphernalia, the time on DVD. Actually, this is a superb collection of rare, early recordings and never-before-seen black-and-white and color footage that proves just why we still love him tender. Narrated by Levon Helm of the band, the DVD time travels back to the year when-rock-and roll was still in its infancy and a young man hip-swiveling Southern boy was about to Make It Big. Even after all these years, the King's infamous appearance on Ed Sullivan's show still hounds us with delight.

. Real Buddy Holly Story, the
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
from: Distribution Select
February 03, 1998
There is no other way for me to put it. Buddy Holly will always be the biggest inspiration in my life. I'm still young and wasn't able to witness his death. In some way however, listening to his music and watching these films will always have the deepest affect on me. Paul McCartney's honest tribute to a man that helped pave the way for his own identity was as honorable as a documentary could be. Everything about the film made perfect sense. Gary Busey was extraordinary performing Holly's material, but that's about it. Like the titled stated, this is the real story of one of Rock and Roll's most original artists. It also captures just how far of a genius he was. Holly was a kid from Lubbock, a boy with a dream and a guitar. His influenced spread from Texas to England ... Read More:

. Janis
City Travel Guides > VHS > Biography
starring: Janis Joplin, Dick Cavett, Sam Houston Andrewsdirected by: Howard Alk
July 01, 1991
This 1974 documentary contains some of Janis Joplin's best performances as well as some great spontaneous interviews. It has her incredible performance of Ball and Chain at Monterey ('67), some Cheap Thrills studio sessions ('68), Woodstock ('69), and Calgary ('70). She blows away the audience on Dick Cavett with Move Over and breaks down during the High School reunion interviews. Where she came from in Port Arthur, TX is such a contrast to who she was. And who she was was the incarnation of the Spirit of the 1960s counter-culture. We get 2 great performances of Piece of My Heart, one of Tell Mama, Try, and Summertime both live and in studio. If you really get into this you might, just might, see God in Janis. She seeps sexuality in her performances, and reveals ... Read More:
