. Pilates:for Dummies
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
from: Hgv Video Production
September 25, 2001
I have read alot of reviews from people who complain about the lack of "flow" in the workout in this DVD. I was worried about this too but then I am a complete beginner. I never even knew what a pilates exercise was before I bought this DVD. However I wanted to try Pilates to see what it was all about and I thought this would be a good choice. I was more concerned with actually learning the exercises at first. After all, you can't get a good "flow" going in any exercise program if you don't know the moves! This DVD does an excellent job of teaching you the moves and exercises. What has worked for me, is to actually memorize the exercises in groups of five. When you have them memorized, you don't really need to watch the ... Read More:

. Tae-Bo Workout: Advanced
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
starring: Billy Blanks
September 21, 1999
To be honest, I can't see how a lot of people have given this workout 5 stars. I love the concept but this advanced tape is poorly done. First, the stretching at the beginning is ridiculous - way to fast for a warm up/stretch (practically gave me whip lash when I did the neck stretches). This was the biggest disappointment. Second, the double time movements are impossibe to do correctly (due to the speed) and dangerous. Third, the video quality is the worst I have ever seen and it seems like the routine was put together in one take without proper editing, cueing, etc. That being said, I still love the concept. I quit doing this tape due to the above reasons and bought the Kathy Smith kickboxing workout which was put together perfectly, ... Read More:

. Cherfitness:a New Attitude
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
starring: Cher
December 22, 1998
This video is great because it has an awesome selection of tunes that make the workout go by nice and fast, but you still get a great workout. The lower body workout is brutal- two days later my butt is still killing me, but I know that means it's working great. The step aerobics is fun- I do it with 2 pound weights which helps with the upper body, too. I have fun doing it, and that is why I can stick with it.
I hope so bad that it gets turned into a DVD!!!

. Second Sight
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
starring: John Larroquette, Bronson Pinchot, Bess Armstrong, Stuart Pankin, John Schuckdirected by: Joel Zwick
January 30, 1991
The basic story is of the rivalry of a private physic detective agency verses the police chief. An important person is abducted and it is up to the psychic to locate the perpetrator(s). The psychic must be feed Goobers regularly to maintain his stability. And somebody is getting lottery tips on the side. There is no redeeming social value in this one. Forget looking for any deep meaning or great acting. This movie is just down right silly and contains just about every cliché in the physic detective book. Watch for fun and say "Stay in the car!!" or "Don't do that!!"

. Jim Thorpe All American
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
starring: Burt Lancaster, Charles Bickford, Steve Cochran, Phyllis Thaxter, Dick Wessondirected by: Michael Curtiz
April 29, 1992
This film certainly has limits: none of the performances are overwhelmingly good, there are too many white people playing natives, and the story sometimes borders on the formulaic. But with that said, do yourself a favor and see it. Jim Thorpe - All American is a fascinating look at a period of American history (the early 20th century) that doesn't get enough coverage. Thorpe was born just before the death of the Old West (1887 or 88), won a college football championship at the Carlisle Indian School, won gold medals in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, played Major League Baseball before WWI, was a founding presence as an all-star halfback in the early National Football League (and its first commissioner), and went on to a long career as a bit player ... . Remains of the Day
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
starring: John Haycraft, Christopher Reeve, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Caroline Huntdirected by: James Ivory
February 14, 1995
This is a slow paced movie, but so well acted and directed that you miss the rhytm. You feel caught from the first images with the voice in off . The photography is splendid. The art is direction is spectacular . The script is a long tale from the memories of Anthony Hopkins and a failed relationship with Emma Thompson as the mistress in service of James Fox a hard enemy of the German forces in WW2. The film travels from the passionate speechs about the destiny of the mankind , the human condition and also the intimate portrayal of this loyal servant , keeping the formalities with absolute gentleness. Never before Ivory had been so inspired and convincing like this one . The last sequence of the film is an extraordinary metaphor. Thompson ... Read More:

. Evening With Harry Belafonte & Friends
City Travel Guides > VHS > Special Interests
August 26, 1997
First of all I have to point out, that this DVD is not region 1 coded! Expected for a very long time - a video recording of a Harry Belafonte concert. For anybody who likes Harry Belafonte this DVD is a must. It contains fourteen new and nostalgic songs in a new arrangement in a high quality performance. In addition with an outstanding image quality (although a little bit noisy) this program is a real entertainment. Even the sound is better than I have stated during some live performances. Unfortunately this DVD was not issued in 16:9 format, although part of the cover let us think that.
