. Teletubbies - Dance With the Teletubbies
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
As the parent of an extremely active and easily bored 7 month-old, I don't know what I would do without this video. Our daughter absolutely LOVES it. With all the expensive equipment we have to entertain her, this ...video is the only item that holds her attention for any length of time. When she starts to cry, we happily reply with, "Time for Teletubbies!" Our vocabulary at home now includes "jumpy catchy ball", "hee-ya", and "again, again". Our little one squeals, laughs, giggles, and "talks" to this video...even though she can't mimic the movements yet, she is definitely interacting and not just being stuck in front of the television. She gets a little bored with the real-life segments, but we can always fast-forward to the songs and ... Read More:

. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Chris Sarandon, Danny Elfman, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Glenn Shadixdirected by: Henry Selick
August 26, 1997
Only Tim Burton could produce a holiday musical about Halloween's grotesqueries taking over Christmas.
And in fact he did. Burton wrote and produced a charming stop-motion musical called "The Nightmare Before Christmas," which is as close as we'll ever get to a Burton Christmas film. And there's rarely a dull moment in this town called Halloween -- from start to finish, it's a quirky, macabre, vintage-flavoured ride through the darker side of everybody's favorite holidays.
In Halloween Town, the undead Jack Skellington is king, and each Halloween the residents try to make their celebration even more horrible than the year before.
But this year, something is missing for Jack, and he starts wondering if ... Read More:

YOU WILL DEFINITELY SEE RAPID RESULTS. IT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD ALL OVER-BODY AND SOUL. AND IN RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING POST MADE BY "BARBPL": 3 of 11 people found the following review helpful: very boring - little or no challenge February 20, 2001 It's probably just me - perhaps I should have NOT purchased this tape. I was looking for a video that would really help me "jump-start" my day. I found this to be really boring, the movements quite basic and Callen's personality very cloying. This might be a wonderful relaxation tape, but I do not see the effect I was hoping for. I'M GLAD TO SEE THAT THIS POST BARELY MADE A DENT IN THE 4.5 STARS THIS VIDEO GOT REVIEWS FOR. ALL OF CALLAN PINCKNEY'S VIDEOS ARE AMAZING ... Read More:

. Death in Venice
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Dirk Bogarde, Romolo Valli, Mark Burns, Nora Ricci, Marisa Berensondirected by: Luchino Visconti
January 01, 1980
"Death in Venice" (1971) is Visconti's version of the short story of the same name written by Thomas Mann. There are a few changes, but I think that the film is true to the spirit of the story. Did I love this movie? No, but I'd watch it again, because I was impressed by it.
The main character is Gustav von Aschenbach (Dirk Bogarde), an old and famous composer that visits Venice in order to rest, and stays at a splendid hotel. There he sees Tadzio (Bjorn Andresen), a young boy he cannot help but admire. Gustav slowly becomes obsessed with Tadzio, and starts to follow him and his family around the city, admiring him from afar. Has Gustav fallen in love with the boy, or with the fact that he is the personification of beauty and youth, things he doesn't have anymore?

. Isadora
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Vanessa Redgrave, James Fox, Jason Robards, Zvonimir Crnko, John Fraserdirected by: Karel Reisz
March 01, 1992
"Isadora", the ambitious movie bio of famed early 20th Century dancer Isadora Duncan, opened in 1968 to mixed reviews and poor boxoffice. In those days, the contractual right to a director's cut of a film was quite rare. The distributor, Universal Studios, quickly shortened the picture by 30 or so minutes. It later changed the title to "The Loves of Isadora". None of these efforts bore fruit, and the production soon faded from most people's memories. It did result in a much deserved Oscar nomination for its star, Vanessa Redgrave, who lost out to Barbara Streisand and Katherine Hepburn [tie vote]. Duncan was a remarkable woman who vowed never to get married [though she finally did] in an age where marriage was most women's singular goal. She may not have revolutionized The Dance, but she certainly ... Read More:
