. The Secret Garden
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Margaret O'Brien, Herbert Marshall, Dean Stockwell, Gladys Cooper, Elsa Lanchesterdirected by: Fred M. Wilcox
December 31, 1992
I'd have to say this is the best movie made from the classic novel by Burnett. They really don't make them like this anymore. The acting from the children is stellar and the atmosphere is great. It's just fun to watch. The spooky setting in the old house on the moors, the mystery in the story is told really well, and the sets are beautiful. The characters are brought to life by Margaret Obrien, Dean Stockwell, and Brian Roper who play Mary Lennox, Colin Craven and Dicken respectively. Of the three characters, it's hard to choose a favorite, but Dicken is so well done and his way with animals and nature makes him a much loved character. I would love to see this version on DVD (not remastered, which I think ruins old movies.) ... Read More:

. Gremlins
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Hoyt Axton, John Louie, Keye Luke, Don Steele, Susan Burgessdirected by: Joe Dante
August 10, 2004
i liked "Gremlins" a lot.i thought it was well acted and funny.it also
had some black humour, which i liked.i liked the look of the
gremlins.they would probably be scary for some children.they are quite
freaky looking.i thought the puppetry was amazing.for the most part it
really looked like these creatures were doing what the movie showed
them doing.the gremlins were hysterical at times in what they said and
how they acted.this is my idea of a good horror/comedy.it balances both
elements well.it think the potential was there for the movie to be
really awful, but good writing makes all the difference.anyway,i really enjoyed
the movie.for me,"Gremlins" is a 4/5

. The Thornbirds
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward, Barbara Stanwyck, Christopher Plummer, Jean Simmonsdirected by: Daryl Duke
January 08, 2002
I just received my Thorn Birds DVD and am so thrilled to be able to watch it on DVD - 487 minutes of viewing in extraordinary color and excellent sound quality! There are 2 discs, with 2 sides to each disc. With all the scenes listed it is so easy to zip back to a particularly favorite scene to watch again. I always loved this mini-series. The musical score is amazing. The actors are excellent, each one perfectly chosen for their role. The child Sydney Penney who plays the young Meggie does a wonderful job. And of course there are no words to describe the amazing performance by Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward, let alone the other lead actors and actresses. This series definitely tugs at your heart strings because there is no way a happy ending will occur. ... Read More:

. Fox and the Hound
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
from: Buena Vista
March 01, 1994
This is one of my favorite Disney movies. When Widow Tweed takes in a baby fox, whose mother had been shot by hunters, she names it Tod and raises it. About the same time she takes Tod in, her neighbor, Amos Slade brings home a hound dog puppy named Copper. One day in the woods, Copper and Tod meet and instantly become the best of friends. When fall comes and Amos takes an unwilling Copper along for his winterlong hunting trip, Tod tries to convince his friends, Big Mama, Dinky and Boomer that even though Copper will come back a trained hunting dog, that they will still stay the best of friends. Big Mama tells Tod that a fox and a hound are natural enemies and that, surprise, you ARE a fox. When the two are finally reunited in the spring, Copper ... Read More:

. I Saw What You Did
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Joan Crawford, John Ireland, Leif Erickson, Sarah Lane, Andi Garrettdirected by: William Castle
August 24, 1999
William Castle's B thriller is very suspenseful and ideal for dark, late Saturday night viewing. Top-billed Joan Crawford is dressed glamourously throughout, although her character barely makes it half way through the picture. It's also rather obvious that she came directly from "Strait-Jacket", and this would cement her as a camp icon. Of course, you can't help but think, "Mommie Dearest, I promise I'll be good!" Two teenage girls (Andi Garrett and Sarah Lane) bored on a Saturday night, decide to make prank phone calls (oh, those glory days before caller ID!), and use the interpretive phrase, "I saw what you did - and I know who you are!" Be careful how you dial, girls, because macho psychopath John Ireland has just brutally ... Read More:

City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Dennis Hopper, Jodie Foster, Dean Stockwell, Vincent Price, John Turturrodirected by: Dennis Hopper, Alan Smithee
September 08, 1993
I am a big fan of the flick, which I just happened on to one day on the telly. I had to run out and find a copy to rent. And now here I am online buying the dvd and the vhs versions. I think the scene where she comes out of the bathroom in Milo's requested wear, and she, despite herself, starts to get turned on by him is one of the most erotic scenes ever filmed: he's standing behind her and her expression changes from fear and anger and loathing to just melting, okay with still a little bit of loathing. Hostess Snoballs have never been the same for me since (if I recall, the snoball scene is how we realize they truly love each other), making snoballs one of the ten most erotic foods ever???

. Here Comes Mr. Jordan
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Robert Montgomery, Evelyn Keyes, Claude Rains, Rita Johnson, Edward Everett Hortondirected by: Alexander Hall
June 23, 1994
It is a shame that this delightful comedy isn't better known today. Part of the reason might lie in the fact that the film's star Robert Montgomery (father of Elizabeth Montgomery of BEWITCHED), after a stint in the military in WW II, did very little acting following the war. Therefore, he doesn't have many later films to draw attention to his career as a whole. Also, after the war he because deeply involved in political matters, and was one of Hollywood's more avid Communist hunters. For whatever reason, the film does not today have the reputation it deserves. There have been two remakes of this film, so some explanation is in order. HERE COMES MR. JORDAN was a film version of a play by Harry Segal titled HEAVEN CAN WAIT. There was a 1944 film by Ernst Lubitsch called HEAVEN ... Read More:
