. Sleeping Beauty
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Mary Costa, Bill Shirley, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton, Barbara Luddydirected by: Clyde Geronimi
September 16, 1997
I have been trying to remember the first time I saw Walt Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," and I cannot remember if I ever saw it in a theater, caught it on television some time, or never sat down to watch it until it came out on videotape. What I did remember is not being particularly impressed by the movie. Certainly I did not consider it to be a classic Disney animated film like "Bambi" or "Cinderella," which is a way of saying that it was not on my "must have" list of Disney movies. Then I watched this 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition of "Sleeping Beauty" and all I can say is that however I saw this film for the first time it was NOT in this expanded version that has restored the original Super Technirama 70 dimensions of the film. I would ... Read More:

. Mary Poppins
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
August 26, 1997
This is one of those films that has stood the test of time and is still entertaining now as it was 40 years ago. Everyone knows the tale of the magical nanny that blows in on the east wind and into the lives of the Banks family of 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Jane and Michael Banks have had a succession of strict nannies as well as a very strict father and a mother who is always out with her fellow suffragettes. Mary Poppins brings magic and fun into the children's lives, something that has been sorely lacking prior to her arrival.
Julie Andrews stars as the nanny and Dick Van Dyke as the lovable cockney Bert, (just forgive his dreadful accent) who always seems to be around at the right time for an adventure. The children find themselves having outings such as ... Read More:

. Ice Age

from: Fox Video
November 26, 2002
Ice Age is an animated(in 3d)movie that takes place during the ice
age.it's a comedy,action,adventure flick that is very fast paced,and a
lot of fun for both kids and adults.there are quite a few good laughs
in this movie.the voice casting is brilliant.Ray Ramano,Legiuzama, and
Dennis Leary, among others provide the voice work.this one of the
funnier animated movies in along time.it is rated G,so the whole family
can enjoy it.as far as i can tell, there is nothing which should be
offensive or unsuitable for children.my advice, gather the family
around, pop in the DVD and enjoy. 4/5

. Memphis Belle
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Tate Donovan, D.B. Sweeney, Billy Zanedirected by: Michael Caton-Jones
February 04, 1997
This is the first of a line of movies depicting shear guts in the face of a real enemy. Afterwards came the likes of Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, The Windtalkers, Blackhawk Down and We Were Soldiers. Memphis Belle gets a bit schmaltzy in the beginning, focusing on the crew and not the reality, but the scenes of flying into the fire makes you respect the guts that generation displayed. I really thought that using the actors (all around 21 to 25) was a great touch, and made me sit back and think about what I was doing at that age (Nam) and what my dad was doing (WWII). Whew, take a bunch of amped up young men and throw them into harms way. I wonder if older, more comfortable men would have done that? And I thought flyboys ... Read More:

. Return of Jafar, the
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Jason Alexander, Jeff Bennett, Val Bettin, Liz Callaway, Dan Castellanetadirected by: Tad Stones, Alan Zaslove
July 14, 1998
While this was probably one of the better Direct-to-video releases Disney produced - it was *far* from memorable. Bringing Jafar back seemed like some sort of cop-out - as if there were no other villans or adventures to chase. It played out like a gigantic episode from the TV series (which I also remember watching, but not with any kind of fervor.) And somehow, creating a sequel for Aladdin felt cheap - it was a feeling I couldn't rid myself of during the entire film.

this movie pleasantly surprised me.i had put off seeing it for
years, mainly for 2 reasons.the first reason is that the movie looked
like it would be 1 long bore.the 2nd reason is Jodie Foster.i have
never been a fan of her.something about her just rubs me the wrong
way.however, tonite the movie was on 1 of the movie channels, and i
thought,what the heck.i'll give It a shot.i figured i'd watch for a
short time, then become bored and do something else.that was not to be
the case.yes, the movie is long, clocking in at almost exactly 2 and a
half hours.but it doesn't feel like a 2 and a half hour movie.i thought
the time went by rather quickly, and considering the subject matter, you
wouldn't think that would be the case.the movie ... Read More:
