. Denise Austin:6 Minute Waist T
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
from: Artisan (Universal)
December 17, 2002
This is an awesome video. It's doesn't seem hard, actually, the first time I did it, I felt it was too easy, but man have I seen results. My 30 yr. old daughter tried and loved it as well. It's not the hardest workout to do, but it's very very effective. I don't always have a lot of time, this video gives you a great workout in only 6 minutes. I now do level 2 and 3 at least 3 times a week. I love this video and would recommend it to anyone trying to reshape their waistline and abs (both lower and upper)

. Plunkett & Macleane
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Jonny Lee Miller, Iain Robertson, Robert Carlyle, Ken Stott, Tommy Flanagandirected by: Jake Scott (II)
August 01, 2000
There is real plot in this film, it just follows two bumbling theives. Actually the two actors are the only aspect that make this movie watchable, just barely however. The self-concious humour ends up being incredibly pretentious, it even seems to revel in the fact that it is pretentious, and somehow that makes the movie selfaware and hip. Some people might leap to this films defense and claim that the forgetable plot was part of the grand scheme to keep it fun and exciting. The problem is asides from the an uninvolving plot, this movie is extremely predictable, which further deminishes the already trite affair.

. Curse of Jade Scorpion
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
September 10, 2002
A by-the-numbers Woody Allen movie, "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion" is another example of the more recent (and uneven) efforts created by the director. Essentially sitcom material, the movie`s plot has some nice ideas and funny moments, yet it`s way too light and linear to deliver an above average cinematic experience. The acting (Helen Hunt and Charlizer Theros are the Allen girls this time) is good, the dialogue sharp and witty as always (although a bit forced at times), and the photography is very competent as well. Add an interesting NY in the forties and you`ve got a decent entertainment that`s worth watching once, still it`s far from a remarkable achievement. Mildly Recommended.

. Desire Under the Elms
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Sophia Loren, Anthony Perkins, Burl Ives, Frank Overton, Pernell Robertsdirected by: Delbert Mann
May 30, 1991
It is the 1850s in a rocky New England farm that is home to the despotic owner, Ephraim Cabot (Burl Ives) and his resentful son Eben (Anthony Perkins). At 25, Eben is only staying on the farm because he expects to inherit the land, even though his greedy and cruel father swears that will never happen. The old man goes off and marries Anna (Sophia Loren), a seductive woman of Eben's age. She is repulsed by her husband, but desperately wants the farm, so there is immediate friction between Anna and her new stepson. Hatred soon turns to lust, however, and the two make good use of the hay loft. Anna gives birth to a son and Ephraim declares that the farm will be his alone one day, a decision that leads to a shocking act.

. The Sting
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Robert Shaw, Charles Durning, Ray Walstondirected by: George Roy Hill
March 01, 1992
Please stop whining about this DVD's aspect ratio. It's not "full-screen." It's widescreen with the original top and bottom sections restored. According to film historian David P. Hayes, THE STING was filmed in 4:3 (equivalent to "full-screen") ratio because director George Roy Hill wanted it to look like an old movie. The studio (and/or the exhibitors) apparently had second thoughts about it, though, so theatrically-released prints had the top and bottom sections blocked ("matted") to fit the widescreen format. What you see on this DVD is not "pan and scan" (with missing left and right content), but the original format with the top and bottom restored. (...)
