. Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: George Carlin, Ringo Starr, Michael Angelisdirected by: David Mitton
This was the first Thomas video I ever got when I was younger. It was probably the best one too. It introduced Duck and Diesel as main characters and Ringo narrates the episodes wonderfully. The music at the beginning of "Better Late Than Never" when the engines go across the viaduct is beautiful and wonderfully produced. "Pop Goes the Diesel" and its follow-ups were the first triple episode in the series. The video has recently been released under the title "Thomas and His Friends Get Along". Though the original version with the low budget looking cover is alot better in my opinion. Overall, a wonderful video. Get the rerelease while you can before they discontinue that too.

. Evening With Harry Belafonte & Friends
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
August 26, 1997
First of all I have to point out, that this DVD is not region 1 coded! Expected for a very long time - a video recording of a Harry Belafonte concert. For anybody who likes Harry Belafonte this DVD is a must. It contains fourteen new and nostalgic songs in a new arrangement in a high quality performance. In addition with an outstanding image quality (although a little bit noisy) this program is a real entertainment. Even the sound is better than I have stated during some live performances. Unfortunately this DVD was not issued in 16:9 format, although part of the cover let us think that.

. Marlowe
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: James Garner, Gayle Hunnicutt, Carroll O'Connor, Rita Moreno, Sharon Farrelldirected by: Paul Bogart
March 05, 2002
Raymond Chandler's wisecracking, star-crossed private eye Philip Marlowe is transplanted into the swinging '60s where hopheads, strippers and psychiatrists join the usual compliment of thugs and goons that make his life miserable. James Garner gets a nice dry run for the "Rockford Files" TV show, while Rita Moreno bares all in her climactic stripping scene. Honestly, the script is not that great -- for the life of me I couldn't actually figure out who did what, or why... But it's still a fun film, in a campy kinda way. The film's one truly great moment is a scene is with Caroll O'Connor as a police detective who, having wearied of playing Marlowe's schnook, bursts into a violent tirade about how lousy his job is, and nearly beats the handcuffed ... . George of the Jungle II
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
from: Buena Vista
September 07, 2004
George of the Jungle returns in this sequel to the hit 1997 movie. Only this came to video and dvd, and it is misses at least 2 people from the first film, but for some Thomas Halden Church returns in this movie, along with John Cleese and Keith Scott who provides the narrator's voice. But this time, Disney decided to take a live action movie, and make a sequel out of it, usually they do this with animated movies. As the movie opens, George of the Jungle (Christopher Showerman replacing Brendan Fraser). And now he is king of the jungle, and has to divide time for both the animals and his wife Ursula (Julie Benz) and son Junior (Angus T. Jones), and usually he ends up late for things for his family including lunch! But one day, George's mother-in-law ... Read More:

this sequel lacks the heart and soul of the first one.it's not very
funny.in fact,i found it mean spirited and depressing.it also has none
of the magic of the first one.if you don't like feeling like you are
being preached to,you probably won't like this movie.i also felt a bit
creeped out by certain parts of it.it's much too dark to be enjoyable
in the same way as the first one.i also felt it strayed into sappiness
territory.actually forget strayed into.it went straight into sappiness
territory.this movie also has a lot of predictability to it.it's
formulaic at times.but the biggest downfall for this movie,in my
opinion,is it's sombre atmosphere.i don't think it's a horrible
movie, but it sure is ... Read More:

. Yankee Doodle Dandy
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: James Cagney, Joan Leslie, Walter Huston, Richard Whorf, Irene Manningdirected by: Michael Curtiz
April 06, 1999
I saw this movie for the first time last night w/ my father. He wanted me to see this movie to see the contrast of what people were like in the 40's-50's and how society is today. I'm 23 years old and to be honest with you, I thought that I wouldn't like this movie. As it turns out, I greatly enjoyed it. It was a wonderful story, full of patriotism - it just makes you proud to be in this country. What movies are out that are like this today? None. And that makes me incredibly sad to see such anti-Americanism. For what? If you want to see a movie that puts a fire in your belly and gets your spirit going, go see this movie - you will not be disappointed!
