If you loathe children's movies, you'll like Babe. Its hard to explain how smart, funny & charming this movie is. Part of the charm is the fact that almost all of the characters have distinctive personalities. The humans act like normal humans and the animals have normal human emotions. Endlessly inventive and with a heart of gold. Tremendous fun for everyone.

starring: Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz, Tate Donovan, D.B. Sweeney, Billy Zane
directed by: Michael Caton-Jones

This is the first of a line of movies depicting shear guts in the face of a real enemy. Afterwards came the likes of Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, The Windtalkers, Blackhawk Down and We Were Soldiers.

Memphis Belle gets a bit schmaltzy in the beginning, focusing on the crew and not the reality, but the scenes of flying into the fire makes you respect the guts that generation displayed.

I really thought that using the actors (all around 21 to 25) was a great touch, and made me sit back and think about what I was doing at that age (Nam) and what my dad was doing (WWII). Whew, take a bunch of amped up young men and throw them into harms way. I wonder if older, more comfortable men would have done that? ... Read More:

While this was probably one of the better Direct-to-video releases Disney produced - it was *far* from memorable. Bringing Jafar back seemed like some sort of cop-out - as if there were no other villans or adventures to chase. It played out like a gigantic episode from the TV series (which I also remember watching, but not with any kind of fervor.)

And somehow, creating a sequel for Aladdin felt cheap - it was a feeling I couldn't rid myself of during the entire film.

this movie pleasantly surprised me.i had put off seeing it for
years, mainly for 2 reasons.the first reason is that the movie looked
like it would be 1 long bore.the 2nd reason is Jodie Foster.i have
never been a fan of her.something about her just rubs me the wrong
way.however, tonite the movie was on 1 of the movie channels, and i
thought,what the heck.i'll give It a shot.i figured i'd watch for a
short time, then become bored and do something else.that was not to be
the case.yes, the movie is long, clocking in at almost exactly 2 and a
half hours.but it doesn't feel like a 2 and a half hour movie.i thought
the time went by rather quickly, and considering the subject matter, you
wouldn't think ... Read More:

City Travel Guides Discounted VHS : The Assassination of Trotsky
.The Assassination of Trotsky
City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Richard Burton, Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, Valentina Cortese, Enrico Maria Salerno
directed by: Joseph Losey

This movie has become something of a camp classic, and another in the long, numbing line of perfectly dreadful movies made by Richard Burton. Burton is ridiculously miscast in the role of Trotsky. Not only is he physically wrong for the part (too fat, bloated and drunk), his attempts at interpreting Trotsky's character are ludicrous and extraordinarily pitiful. The make-up is another irritating element: the pathetic stick-on goatee Burton wears literally comes close to falling off in several scenes, which brings some much-needed hilarity to the leaden script. Watch when Burton screams various lines as the goatee comes dangerously close to falling off onto his chin. Hilarious stuff!

Another ridiculous scene is the climatic assassination, where ... Read More:

City Travel Guides > VHS > VHS
starring: Ruth Warrick, Bobby Driscoll, James Baskett, Luana Patten, Lucile Watson
directed by: Harve Foster, Wilfred Jackson

I grew up with the film. However after a long time of not seeing it all I really remembered was the song and Br'er Rabbit. Of course I also had the book of Tales of Uncle Remus. Upon more recent viewing I was able to fill in the parts that I missed or forgot.

Johnny's father has something to do and leaves him and his mother with her mother. There Johnny gets to meet Uncle Remus; the same Uncle Remus that told tales to his mother. The tales are of different animals such as the clever Br'er Fox always out to have Br'er Rabbit for supper. As he spins the tail Johnny, and we, are mesmerized. The movie incorporates animated characters with real. I will not go into the story as you need to se it for your self.

If you favor the David Lean approach to grand scale epic film-making, you mustn't miss a wide screen viewing of this gem. It is too thoughtful, intelligent, even philosophic to move at a pace which would suit devotees of todays thrill-a-minute offerings, yet it offers so many rewards which are seldom found these days. Amidst lushly photographed, exotic settings and loaded with fabulous performances by some of the screen's all-time finest actors, "Lord Jim" dares to mix action adventure with a penetrating examination of moral issues like courage and honor and integrity. The visual production is wondrous and makes a quality widescreen edition intensely desireable and long overdue.

When I was a kid, one thing I looked forward to in the summer was when Nickelodeon would play "How I spent my vacation". They would split the movie up into four episodes and play two each day. I loved this movie when I was a kid and I still love it now. It's absolutely hilarious-"There's a car! there's a car!" I think my favorite parts are Plucky going to Happy World Land with Hampton. This movie is just absolutely hilarious and will always remain on my list of favorite movies!
