.Rick Steves' France with Map by: Rick Steves October 23, 2008 I brought this book with me on a recent trip to Paris, the Loire valley and Brittany. Whenever we could, we used the recommendations for places to go and stay and eat from the book and never came away dissapointed. The book does a great job of getting you to the best sights and avoiding the crowds. The only bad thing I can say about it is the coverage is not very good. There are many cities that there is no information on making this not a good resource for answering the question "Gee, I wonder what is in this little out of the way town we are driving thru". .Rick Steves' Europe 101: History and Art for the Traveler by: Rick Steves May 15, 2007 Rick Steves provides excellent advice in his travel books. Unfortunately, the history and economics presented in this book leave much to be desired. Time does not permit a detailed description of this book's errors and misleading information. The best example of its faulty history is in an essay in the back entitled "Whose Story Is History?" Its general thesis is that everything wrong with the world is the fault of colonization by Europe and America. The West is held to a standard of perfection no society can be expected to meet while third world nations have no responsibility for their situation. An example of a serious historical omission is the book's discussion of Spain's conquest of Mexico. While Cortez was ruthless ... .Rick Steves' Italy Planning Map: Including Rome, Florence, Venice & Siena City Maps by: Rick Steves January 05, 2007 I find that Rick Steves' "back door" philosophy and his general tips are sound, so I bought Italy 2006. The book is promoted as a guidebook to the whole country. Surprise! It only covers selected tourist centers, and concentrates on the big cities. Most of the towns of southern Italy aren't mentioned.
