 Rating:  - Well written, but storyline was a little unoriginalSadie was a very quick, easy read. But, while I thought it was well-written, the storyline was too predictable. The 1st half concentrates on the main character's childhood, and does a good job of it. But I felt like the 2nd half was a bit rushed. There were no surprises at all. We get no real sense of her life - nor of any other love interest. I felt like the whole thing needed to be a bit more hard-hitting. There's definitely something Martina Cole-like about Jane Elliott's writing (a high compliment indeed), and I have a feeling we're going to see some good stuff from her going forward. But she needs to have a few more twists in her plotlines to really bring her up to the MC level. MC is never afraid to go out on a limb and throw ... If she had ever had a boyfriend etc. Or had the abuse and awful childhood put her off men for life? Read More: Rating: - Page-turning fiction at its bestI stumbled across this book having been enthralled by the Kevin Lewis novels and the plot for this sounded good. However this book was absolutely superb - great characters, a superbly gripping story and turned out to be the definitive book you can't put down. A superb debut novel and I will be awaiting the follow up with eager anticipation. If you are in 2 minds give it a buy - you won't be dissapointed. Rating:  - Wow!A powerful, hard -hitting book! It's almost as the Author has lived the life of Sadie she descibes. It's about sexual feelings but in no way "sexy". At times it's compelling and I couldn't put it down - although I found it distateful at times it was also an education. Sadie shows glimpses of her softness at various times - shows she is human. She survived - with the help of an old gentleman - Lionel who takes care of her. Some of her classmates were not quite successful. Central to the book is the character of Allen, her disgusting paedophile father - a real sleaze ball who preys on the unfortunates. Read it now! |
