This book was supposed to be a massive departure from the norm for me, I am normally found reading Robert Rankin and werder fiction. So I thought I would give something else a go, and this is what I chose.
The idea was that I liked it, but subconsciously made myself happier to stick with my normal material. Only problem was I loved it.
A collection of short stories, each twisted and different. I found myself unable to sate my appetite for the book with only one story at a time and ended up reading and reading until my eyes hurt - so if you need sleep i would suggest not buying this book!
It intrigues, makes you think and brings each of the stories into the modern world, but still leaves the fantasy element there ... Read More:

I didn't see the point in these stories: we, readers, don't get a deeper retelling of these traditional tales, but a veneer of sex and violence that gives them an "adult" appearance. While I found the sex and violence were totally superficial and unnecessary, and they didn't manage to move my profounder feelings, I felt deceived in my intention of going deeply into these beloved stories. I think that good fantasy writers often succeed in a deeper view on folk tales without announcing their intentions to the readers, but subtly letting them find similitudes in theme and characterization. Fairy stories for grown-ups - a lovely indulgence. The Frog Prince was my personal favourite but most of the stories were enchanting, although some took themselves too seriously.

This book is different from anything else I've read. When I was younger than I am now, I often wondered about how the fairy tale characters had such great adventures but happily ending lives. This book gives you a more satisfying look at some not so happily ending fairy tales. Some of the stories I didn't understand parts of but all around, this book is so fine. Sometimes while reading it, I would pull my face out of the book for a moment and think, "I can't believe someone actually wrote that!!" This book is TFTD!!!! (Too Fine To Define) My friend read this book also and thinks it is sooooooo good!

The first time I read this book, I was quite taken aback by the eroticism that threads thru nearly every story. I later returned to it, prepared, and discovered the treasure between the covers. The adaptions of the fairy tales give you real, flesh and blood characters, surprising twists, and a thoroughly satisfying read!
