 Rating:  - Just what you expectI've just returned from 5 days in Sicily, where I visited Erice, Agrigento and Palermo and some other parts of the west coast. For these areas, I found the book very useful and informative, in particular the Palermo section. As usual it was set out well and was easily to use. I imagine the other sections are just as useful. The only thing it didn't mention was that while it might be the best beach in Sicily, the rocks behind are yielded some of our major break throughs in understanding climate change! I would reccomend this book and prefer the layout to the rough guides I have used for other places in the past Rating:  - Travel WorthyI am not disappointed with my purchase - it is informative and interesting, and I would recommend if you are interested in travel, and it would be your first visit to Scilly. Rating: - Lonely Planet Sicily - an offer you can't refuse.I stayed in Palermo for a week and only ventured outside twice - to Corleone and Mondello, but The Lonely Planet guide has an excellent section on Palermo and is well worth buying just for this section. Their bar and restaurant recommendations were excellent, and the book helped us make the most of our stay in the Sicilian capital. In the past, I've stuck to the Rough Guides, but now I've been converted to Lonely Planet. Rating:  - Use the Rough Guide to Sicily insteadI've just spent two weeks in Sicily. It is a fascinating island. However, I was let down by the Lonely Planet's guide book. The information on many locations was almost misleading, the guide overstating the charms of many towns while remaining silent on the negative sides of desitinations. More specifically a search for one of their highly recommended restaurants in Palermo led us on a wild goose chase into a very dubious district and the town maps they supply were almost useless in most cases, being poorly anotated and featuring very few street names. During the two weeks we met other people who had been warned away from the Lonely Planet guide and been recommended the Rough Guide edition instead. I recommend you take their ... Read More: |
