Running your own bar on a tropical island may be many people's dream, but when the island is Tenerife and your clientele are straight from the pages of the tabloid press, the dream quickly turns into a nightmare of vomit, cockroaches and dodgy dealings.
In this very funny account, we share Joe and Joy's best ideas and worst mistakes as they attempt to get to grips with their new life abroad.
A wonderfully funny insight into what it takes to run a busy bar restaurant in a Canarian holiday resort; a great beach read.

What a fabulous read from cover to cover. You don't need to know Tenerife or even to have been there to enjoy this excellent piece of writing.
I read a lot, but I could not put this book down as I wanted to know what was going to go wrong next. And secretly I was praying something, anything would go right for them!
Desperately funny, it had me in tears of laughter at least once every two pages. A must read for any ex-pat anywhere. And a damned good read for anyone else!

i live here in tenerife, so i could relate to the content of this book, there wasn't one bit of this book that wasn't accurate, the lazy spanish attitude is a familiar one especially if you want a job done quick, owning a bar isn't all it is cut out to be. i just can't wait for the next book....

Enjoyed this book immensely.
Joe's writing in itself is of a very high standard - descriptive, funny, observant.
Given that he tackles a "dream" that many of us fantasise about, with wit and honesty, it's no wonder he has been getting readers by the score.
Anyone who's been to Tenerife, or dreamt of moving to a sunnier place and idling away a few hours running a bar, before the next seeion in the sun, should read this! It'll open your eyes to the sheer hard work involved, but if you really want to go for it, it won't put you off either - just make you take a more realistic view of it.
Recommended reading!
