 Rating:  - Great travel guideI was very surprised to see that several of the most negative comments about this edition of the Rough Guide to Mallorca were written before the book was published! Remarkable Rating: - impressiveThis book was invaluable to a first timer to this lovely island. Everything was meticulously researched and was well and funnily written. Restaurant reviews were good too. Rating: - Top quality guide bookI am astounded by the shamelessly negative reviews of this excellent guidebook. Phil Lee's witty, incisive and highly personal style is so refreshing, and his opinions on which places and attractions to see and which to avoid are invaluable and always hit the mark. I first used the 1996 version of this book on my first solo trip to Mallorca (in that summer)and although admittedly I can't comment on other reviewers' remarks about the Palma shop, restaurant and club scene, I can say that for the great outdoors, such as places on the island to visit and magnificent hikes (ALL the hikes in the book are fantastic and easy to follow)it is unbeatable. Definitely the best comprehensive guide book to Mallorca. Rating:  - look elsewhere for the lowdown on mallorcaLike the other reviwers here I just want to implore anyone who is looking for a good guide to Mallorca's restaurants, hotels and sights to please not bother buying the Rough Guide. The restaurant section for Palma, for example, is extremely limited and does not in any way reflect the great selection of eateries and tapas bars in what is a great city for nightlife. Also half a page on Palma's shops?-that's just plain lazy! I also have the Time Out Guide and it is vastly superior-really comprehensive and fun, with great recommendations-please don't waste your money on the Rough Guide as I did, buy the Time out instead. |
