A very complete and comprehensive coverage of differential equations with their practical applications.
For me the thing that sets this book apart from the myriad of text books on the subject, is the fact that it breaks away from the usual student handbook style of writing. There are no quick reference boxed formulae to remember. I no longer feel like a schoolboy when reading the book, but rather that I am genuinely studying for a higher degree. The book outlines all the related topics starting with the fundamentals and working upwards-thus developing a very thorough comprehension of the subject. The theories are further supported by references to prominent mathematicians, engineers and scientists with their contributions and how they used differential equations. A further perk for the engineers out there are the practical application sections. Here a number of practical engineering scenarios are presented along with complete analyses of the situation (no leaping to an equation that may be relevant). These sections help you to develop the ability to analyse engineering problems as presented in the real world (not simplified school textbook style!) and subsequently 'work the problem' to find a reasonable solution.
As a student of engineering myself (London university!!) I can highly recommend this text to anyone who wishes to excel in this field.
