Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A feast of discombobulation...
I feel like a party-pooper giving this a 4-star rating, given that everyone else has seen fit to lavish it with the full quota. There's no doubt that "Every Hand Revealed" is a very good poker book, written by one of the game's most interesting characters. And, given that it's essentially a fairly dry blow-by-blow (well, hand-by-hand) self-penned account of Gus's 2007 Aussie Millions win, it is surprisingly engaging. Gus takes us through his thought patterns and explains how - and why - his approach to the game changes at different points. This is, perhaps, the book's most interesting angle, concentrating as much on the psychology as the mathematics.

So why just 4 stars instead of 5? Well, as I said, this is essentially just a record of a poker tournament and, as you'd expect, many of the hands detailed aren't actually all that interesting to read about, consisting of pre-flop/post-flop bets and instant folds. Gus highlights why post-flop aggression and continuation betting is so important, but reading about it isn't always much fun. Fortunately, his engaging style does manage to pull you through, and it's certainly a valuable read for anyone serious about improving their game. I think it could have been improved by including some wider first-hand thoughts about the tournament itself, with maybe an anecdote or two as humourous interludes, rather than merely a run-down of hand histories. Maybe that would deviate too much from the book's primary purpose, but I feel it would have improved the readability.

Incidentally, this book must surely hold the world record for the most usages of the word "discombobulated"... I wonder if there was a little prop bet going on there?!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - top & quite funny at times! esp for the price of 2 poker magazines....
i like gus' play aswell as players like negranu and farah. crazy men basically..lol.

what a box of treats to know whats going on...and he really does explain in some detail (sometimes with spreadsheet esq odds summaries)

People who play poker for money regularly at any stakes. (i play microstakes sngs on FT). i dont win much but i love poker.

its actually an amusing read, because he knows that he's playing a crazy/unpredictable game & it seems this is what really interests him about poker aswell as the great reads & awareness of different situations he demonstrates.

clever guy i think. buy it !!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Most entertaining book I've read in 2008
I read this book in 2 days, and I when I finished I started it again! this is a great poker book, and I will definately incorporate some of Gus's methods into my own game - such as defending my BB more, and generally playing more aggressively near the end of tournaments.

Gus is merciless, but funny with it. For example: "A new player at the table opens for 1,300, 1 off the button. I am in the big blind with K7 and decide to give him a warm welcome. I re-raise to 4,500 and he folds."

If you like poker you will love this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not so crazy after all!!!
I credit this book with helping me win my first ever full field tournament. Gus has been called all sorts of things ranging from "crazy" to "brilliant" and i have to agree with the latter. His style of play may seem a little counter intuitive, but there is immense method to his madness. What some people don't realise is that in tournament play, luck plays a big factor. When your opponent doesn't have a hand, it will serve you extremely well to represent one yourself. Gus shows you how to recognise when these little situations occur and how to exploit them. I'm not advocating being as loose as a soho hooker, just saying that a little backbone will help immensely. Great book and no, i won't be lending it to anyone!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Gus Hansen thinking, out of this world
Hi; It is the first poker book I read and I have to say is a cracking book.
Seeing Mr. Hansen going trough all the hands he payed on the 2007 Aussie Millions on the Crown Plaza Casino in Melbourne.
He is a Mad-Man and a agressive player, but show you how a poker professional thinks in all different situations.
Just to say there is a couple of printed mistakes, on hand 306, Hansen was holding Qd-Qs and not Qd-Qc.
And on hand 309, the book says that Hansen was holding Js,8s and flop came 8s,6h,5c so one of the 8 had to be a different suit.
Enjoy the reading...
and become a poker-pro :-)
