This book doesn't hold back in its description of the victims of the drugs trade.
The opening chapter looks at how a kilo of coke makes its way from the fields of south america to a crack den in london, a den which the author then raided. It shows how coke has caused nothing but death and destruction on its terrible journey.
this for me was a real eye-opener, and should be used to educate kids in schools about the effect of how buying drugs hurts so many people and maintains an evil life-destroying trade. Just like we are taught to recycle, not to wear fur, not to buy blood diamonds the message about drugs should be that simply the act of buying coke leads to the deaths of more people, usually the poorest and most innocent. Every line users snort or smoke is soaked in blood.
great book, a thrilling read. the raids are described by the man who led them and are breathtaking, such a dangerous and terrifying undertaking - they never know if they are going to get shot or stabbed each time they plunge into another crack house with up to fifty users/dealers inside! The fight scenes are bloody and exhilarating...
'crack house' is an important lesson on how not to and then exactly how to fight the uk drug dealers at street/crack house level. i for one vote for the 'dirty harry' approach of mr keeble!

Statements like this at the start of the book will give you a good indication of the lengths you have to stretch your imagination to throughout the rest.
Rating: - Gritty, funny and lightning fast
I had no idea when I picked up this book how good it was going to be. All too often true-crime books are a bit of a let down but having worked in law enforcement, I was amazed at the detail, breadth of knowledge and how damn exciting this book was!
I think the one star reviewer got his wires a bit crossed and didn't see the detailed references at the end of the book which back up the stats (also a rarity in this genre!), including the authors' own request under the freedom of info act for data relating to fatal/non-fatal shootings in London.
The descriptions of crack smoking and user behaviour were spot on (something I have witnessed on numerous occasions). These guys know what they are talking about!

I found this book to be very annoying in parts where statistics are quoted with no reference to source or reference to dubious sources to back up whatever was being said.
Factually, it lacks on the basics. Talk of glass crack pipes are not what I would associate with real life. Crack pipes are ideally home made from plastic bottles so that they can be cut open and 'scrapped out' at the end of the day or week. These plastic home made bottles become a very important possession due to the residue collected there.
Someone also has been pulling his leg when they told him that crack addicts dont use matches due to the sulpher. Quite simply - ' have you ever tried to hold a crack pipe and light a match at the same time ?' It doesnt work and you can not control the length or duration of the flame with a match like you can with a lighter.
The simple facts which are incorrect made me lose faith in the integrity of the book.

I came across this book quite by chance and am halfway through it...........as a former crack addict myself I have even had the dubious poleasure of being nicked by Keeble.......I know many of the people he mentions in his book and most of the places( the 10o or so crack houses).........the way he writes is brilliant......he takes you INSIDE THE CRACK HOUSES........you mneet the whores, the underage ones included.......the dangerous...the victims.............you really feel he takes you around the neighborhoods he describes........Wood Green........Tottenham..............Hornsey.................I even know the gangs he talks about..............the Hornsey Man Dem........Wood Green Dem..........etc....
he gives you a brilliant insight into the way the entire crack and heroin world runs..........right from Colombia............being made into mush by farmers surrounded by civil war..............through Jamaica and the Caribbean, where it is stored, and then transferred to itinerant smugglers recreuited from Britain, etc. to carry the stuff back through customs.............
This guy HAS REALLY BEEN THERE..................I know 'coz I have myself and I can see it ata glance that this gut is 100 % the real thing- authentic...............
He takes you on a stakeo0ut..........and on the rush to the door as the heavy squad move forward and try and get tot the stuff before it all gets flushed downb the toilet !!!!!!!!!!!1
Personally I was on the other side of the splintering door.........many many times did I see it crash it..............and see the boys in blue charge in............often into the line of fire...........!!
The author makes a good case for the police's position.......BUT.CHECK THIS...............!! STRONGLY CRITICISES HARINGEY CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES...........and even states that in many cases the children taken from junkies would have been better off left alone with their parents..........apparently many of them ended up in the care of nonces employed by Haringey Council..............!!!!!!!!!111
ANYWAY............A REAL PAGE TURNER............I AM BREAKING OFF NOW TO WRITE THESE FEW WORDS...............BUT AFTER THIS I AM STRAIGHT 'BACK ON THE CASE' TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT...........
