Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Interesting page turner but lacks credibility and depth
This is by no means a "bad" novel, but is far too simplistic and shallow for this readers' tastes. The plot is mentioned elsewhere so I won't reiterate this but will focus on where I feel the novel fails.

A good crime novel needs depth of character. As another reader has mentioned, the main victim is rarely portrayed and we have no insight into her character, except as another abused statistical fact. The Lawyer, Lilly, is fairly bright and breezy but her character seems misplaced and would be more at home in a typical light-hearted women's page turner such as "Does my bum look big in this"

Likewise, the main Policeman also lacks depth of character and his building romance with Lilly is simplistic, not very credible and probably better placed in a Mills and Boon book.

The novel is a simple page turner, focusing far more on dialogue than description and lacks articulation. I enjoy a good page turner thriller but James Patterson is more believable, or among the female authors Tami Hoag shines.

There are also far too many of those unlikely "just in time" scenarios splattered throughout the novel.

To summarise, if you enjoy a good page turner, but are not too worried about depth of character, originality or credibility, then you could do worse.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An absolute must-read!

First of all, I'm not usually into books but this one was recommended to me and I absolutely loved it!

It's a brilliant read and I can't wait for Helen Black's next offering.

Well, what are you wating for? If you love a good book, order it now!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not Bad
I can see where Ms King was coming from after commenting that the author chose to write this novel about the lawyer Lily and not the young girl Kelsy but all the same it wasn't terrible. I am a hugh fan also of Kevin Lewis and must say that this book doesn't compare with his ability to grab the reader and make you finish the book wanting more. However this book was an interseting story, albeit a little bit "samey" as others I have previously read. I did enjoy the characters though and thought that when the next book comes out I will certainly give it a try.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - what a load of tripe
I bought this book as it says on the back that readers of kevin lewis and Jane Elliott will love this book! Now I am a big fan of both of these authors and there is no way this book is written in the same context as them, I read the back of the book and it gives the impression that the main storyline is about the girl Kelsey who is been accused of killing her mother, however I found the whole story was mainly focused on the lawyer Lilly, and the police side of things! We hardly ever see Kelsey in the book- which is quite contrare to kevin lewises and jane elliotts book where the main bulk of the book is about the character - whom has been put into care on the streets etc! I read a book in half a day but had to force myself to read this one as it was so boring - and from the other review saying they laughed out loud - were you reading a different books?????????? Definitely not recommended seemed to me the author was more focused on her side of things as the book states she used to be a lawyer - rather than the side of the victim! Definitely wouldnt buy another book of hers unless she focuses more of the victims side of things! If you like Martina cole, mandasue heller, kevin lewis, june hampson, and jane elliott you will definitely NOT Like this book !
