I didn't really think much of it, until I was bought one for my birthday - book seven. It had the Great Gable walk in it, a mountain which I still haven't found the time to climb, but I'll get round to it. I read it from cover to cover - unusual, considering it's a guidebook, and was immediately hooked. Wainwright has classified and categorised the Lake District so perfectly and so completely that if you have walked the paths he describes, you can almost see the views in your mind as you read the books.
