The French network of sentiers and randonees are very impressive. Of course, if the French are going to go walking, they will want good instructions and it is certainly difficult to get lost in the main walking areas, although it is very easy to go a whole day without meeting another soul! I tried several walks in the Auvergne and one in the Burgandy region. Great walks all. Lots of useful information.
