Many people will have been familiar with Alan Whicker from his decades of jet-setting, globe-trotting Whicker's World programmes; entertainingly, wittily and educationally bringing the world of travel into our homes on TV for British and other audiences.

When, after an absence that's been far too long, he reappeared on our screens again recently, to present a two-part documentary of his own experiences in Italy during the Second World War, many were happily surprised to see him still alive and going strong. this is one of the best autobiographys ive read (and ive read a few) these days(whoops im sounding like my grandad here)but it is true so called celebritys bring out autobiographys based on fleeting fame and little substance,alan whicker has just about met every one of note,and was instrumental in pionering war correspondence,every page has something of interest while whickers gift for journalism,shines with his sardonic wit and charm highly recommended.

As someone who used to work in television documentary production I was entranced by this enthralling and whimsically observant book. Alan Whicker's writing style and ability to bring back to life those great moments of Television Documentary make this un 'un-put-downable' volume which takes pride of place on the coffee table! If we can't have more Whicker's Worlds on TV then enjoy this reminiscence over previous moments! After reading the first chapter I wondered which TV series today provides the same degree of entertainment, insight and fun? I'm still wondering!
