Having recently visited iran in August 2008 I found the Lonely Planet guide to be the most accurate, although my version was 2004 therefore not quite up to date eg the new airport has now opened. It provides information on just about everything you can expect to encounter on your travels through this country. The biggest truth being the Tehran traffic! This being the only issue regarding safety I had throughout my 3 week travels. The pollution makes your eyes water, and the smog hanging over the city cuts out the view of the mountains beyond. Crossing the road made a farce of the green cross code! Yes, you really do wait for others to cross and go with them!
Fashions for women are variable. Many do still wear chador, and all without exception ... Read More:

.Laos (Lonely Planet Country Guide)

Used this book along side the Footprint Laos guide. Both are better for different areas, both were a bit lacking when you get away from the main areas and some areas were already out of date once you were away from the main centres.

Overall still good. LP books are not as good as they used to be in my opinion but worth carrying.

Everything you need in one book, it is a really well thought out and clear book with lots of full colour examples. The language used is very accessible and doesnt try to baffle you with jargon and masses of over complex detail when you just want to get a nugget of information. The book comes with a CD and loads of exercises to go though, all really good and logically put together. All in all I was really surprised how easy it was to read, it was a pleasure, and makes a refreshing change for an author to really think about how he is putting his ideas accross about a complex subject. This is a definate must for anyone serious about doing any development in ArcObjects.

I have recently returned from a trip using both the Lonely Planet to the Middle East and a separate country guide to Jordan. This particular compilation is sparse on cultural, historical and practical information (it is no more than 150 pages longer than the entire single country guide to Egypt), generally out of date (in particular, regarding prices and budgeting) and often misguiding (for example, several maps are marked with street names that are completely incorrect). If you are looking for a guide book to help plan a trip to the Middle East then you would be better off considering a different series, investigating the single country guides or not taking one at all.

Luckily I wasn't totally put off by your previous reviewer who complained bitterly about the mis-reference to Timbuctu and I bought the book!

I had previously purchased the 2nd edition of this guide and wasn't too impressed by it. However, this third edition is by a new author who has lived in Senegal and it has been completely revised. It is full of useful practical and background information for the curious traveller, even for those that have only booked a package to the Gambian Coastal resorts. Armchair travellers should find it an interesting read as well.

I have read a lot of the "I have made it myself" books and they all seem to blend in (often think they just got lucky). This book was a refreshing change as it gives the bigger picture and is backed up by the latest research. It also did not just concentrate on start-ups but looks at company growth (financing etc). Def 5 stars.
