. The Rough Guide to England (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
by: Robert Andrews, Rob Humphreys, Phil Lee, Jules Brown
May 04, 2006
There is so much to see in our own country, and this guide really is excellent. Compared to it's rival-Lonely Planet's guide to England, it has got more detailed coverage, clearer maps, and design wise is better on the eye. I don't think there is currantly an up to date Footprint guide to England. On a recent trip to Fotheringhay in Northamptonshire, this guide was very acurate, and had a 'spot on' description of the church as seen for the first time. And the church is certainly the main feature of this village. Lonely Planet didn't mention the church at all! Another thing I like about this guide is that picture wise, it doesn't give too much away. I like the idea of arriving at a place and seeing the landmark 'for the first time'. This Rough ... . Syria and Lebanon (Lonely Planet)
by: Terry Carter, Lara Dunston, Andrew Humphreys
August 01, 2004
The new July 2008 edition recently arrived. I think it's a great advance over previous editions, although I agree with Lara that Syria warrants its own Lonely Planet guide. Many text-boxes and references to more specialist sources of information have been added. Everything has been updated and substandard accommodation deleted. It's very compact, light and easy-to-use - except for the street maps. These seem more difficult to read than ever! Extra plans showing the layout of ruins and of some museums are great. However, the prices given for flights and accommodation are already well out-of-date. Judging by the introductory sections, the guide was completed in about February 2008. Lonely Planet needs to speed-up its printing schedule, although ... Read More:

. Egypt (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
by: Scott Wayne
2002-01
We've just come back from honeymoon and used this book when we visited Cairo and particularly the incredible museum... the descriptions are spot on and the book guides you thru' room by room. Our tour guide was saying practically the same things as the book, so its all you need! Dress codes for women in Cairo aren't as strict as the book makes it out to be, there were loads of girls with string tops and shorts, so long skirts and long sleeved shirts aren't necessarily a must!! Other than that, pretty accurate about local customs and traditions.
