. Dragonquest
by: Anne McCaffrey
September 01, 1983
Second book in the series of the Dragonriders of Pern. Anne McCaffrey weaves a delicate tissue of characters - both human and dragon - as she continues to build upon the social structure of the planet Pern. Dragons and their almost symbiotically linked riders, Lords and their wards, craftsmen, teacher-Harpers and the wonderfully affectionate and loyal fire lizards, each in their own way commited to defeating their deadly enemy......Thread. Anyone who loves dragons or have ever wished to soar upon gossamer wings.........this series is for you. Highly recommended.

. No One Noticed the Cat
by: Anne McCaffrey
June 01, 2007
I must say I enjoyed this book, which is essentially a fairy tale. It doesn't match up to the writing in the earlier Dragon books but it's still a good read and is in Anne McCaffrey's usual well written style. There is of course a happy ending with a cleverly thought out and very suitable end to the villainness! There is the feeling too that there could be more stories to come about the characters in it. I have nearly all of Anne McCaffrey's books and was well pleased with this addition to the library.

. Dragonsong
by: Anne McCaffrey
February 01, 1983
I really hate giving any of these books less than 5 stars because the rest are so brilliant. However this one didnt quite do it for me. Its a shame because the writing is almost as good as usual and there are only a few things that let it down.
First is Menolly herself. To be honest we've been spoilt with the amazing characters like F'lar, Lessa ect. and Menolly isn't as good. When Lessa was practically a slave, with her family killed and rightfull inheritance taken, she did something about it. Yes, you do sympathise with Menolly not being able to play music like she wants, but you also wish that she'd stand up for herself a bit. She lets everybody push her around.
And then she finds some fire lizards and all is happy and good because the new harper ... Read More:

. The White Dragon
by: Anne McCaffrey
June 01, 1983
I have to start by saying that the first two books are better, but you need to read this if you started the series. It starts off slow with the construction of the Cave Hold and Jaxon's illness. The series makes sure to keep up reasons why dragonmen must remain alive on Pern. You can feel yourself in the series aback a great dragon and fighting thread. That imagery comes thru and is very alive.

. Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern
by: Anne McCaffrey
March 01, 1982
"Dragonsinger" is the second book in Anne McCaffery's "Harper Hall Trilogy" and pickes up directly where "Dragonsong" left off. Having lived holdless, practically outrun Thread and impressed nine fire lizards, Menolly is travelling to the Harper Hall with Master Robinton, Furthermore, following Petiron's recommendations. She has been accepted as a student - meaning that, one day, she will become a Harper.
However, the transition won't be an easy one. Menolly's father had believed that only men could become a Harper and, while that has changed, there are still those who believe that Menolly has no place at the Harper Hall. Worse, her nine fire lizards inspire a certain amount of jealousy and - at times - alarm. She meets a certain amount of resentment and there are ... Read More:

. Dragonsdawn
by: Anne McCaffrey
January 02, 1990
A decent basic story is undermined by McCaffrey's apparent desire to name every one of the colonists, throwing in random names of characters who never appear again and have no dramatic role in the narrative every couple of sentences or so. 2 stars for trying, but the dragonrider series lost its way long ago - around the time of the White Dragon which was the last of the well written novels in the sequence. Everything since has been giving the fans what they want with no return to the creative genius which made the series so good in its early days. For completists only.

. The Renegades of Pern
by: Anne McCaffrey
March 21, 1991
This book starts well, but then, just when things are getting interesting, it jumps forward several years, completely bypassing the good stuff. It then gets completely bogged down in the interminable excavations at Landing. Also has many odd bits as it simply recounts what happened in White Dragon and Dragon quest from a different perspective. Maybe interesting for die hard fans, who get excited just reading the word "Lessa", but no one else.
