This book is brill... I got this book for my mum for christmas and she hasn't put it down yet, the food she has been making from it is delicious... sure it has lots of foods listed in there, but the book is fantastic and you've got to trust me on this one!

This is, without a doubt, the difinitive guide to what to do now you own a pasta machine. My only complaint is that it lacks some of the great photography that marks modern cookery writing (see the "A little Taste of" series for what I mean). If you make your own pasta don't be daunted by the baffling array of shapes he uses, I find that most recipes work equally whatever I add them to (although this isn't a popularist view back in Italy). Given the game season is almost upon us, try the rabbit/pheasant/mushroom recipe - divine.

I'm a huge mushroom fan when it comes to food, so when I received this book as a present I was over the moon. The book is split into two sections, the first deals with identifying wild mushrooms and which are the best for eating, and the second part contains the recipes.

The recipes are great and very accessible. I haven't been on a mushroom hunt yet, but my local greengrocer regularly stocks wild mushrooms, so I've had the chance to try a few of the recipes, and very good they are too.

I have found this book to be a constant source of inspiration for my attempts liven up the boring bolognese and have used the spicy prawns with pasta on numerous occasions to great effect.

Many of the recipes do, however, require a little more than rudimentary cooking skill, a well stocked cupboard and often a little detective work to track down an obscure ingredient or a suitable alternative. The results of perseverance are worthwhile though.

This is a unique book. It give hints of the flavours of the traditional south-italian cousine which is based a lot on ingredients from "the wild".
Unfortunately, this is also almost a useless book as most of the ingredients are not easy to find (if not going around in the fields in the south of Italy).
Buy it for the beauty of the book, but be aware that if you are lucky you might be able to use about 10% of the recipes and definitively not the most interesting ones.

I have lived in Italy for many years, and love Italian cooking - I love it because it exalts simplicity, it takes a few basic ingredients and produces pure uncluttered taste sensations. It puts vegetables and beans in the place they should be on a table - at the head. Antonio's recipes are absolutely genuine and simple, and reflect all of this. These dishes are exactly what you find in Italian homes - things like raw artichoke salad, turnip shoots with pasta, pumpkin risotto, pizzoccheri, I could go on and on. The layout of the book is also simple and uncluttered, with great photography and interesting and valid introduction sections to each vegetable.
