. The Rough Guide to Cambodia - Edition 2
by: Beverley Palmer, Steven Martin
September 29, 2005
I have just returned from Cambodia, and was frustrated that there is a new edition of due out but I couldn't wait that long! To say this is about 3 years old though, I found all the info was up to date, including visas and money. The info on food and culture made an interesting read before our vistit.
We travelled to Siem Reap (I can't comment on hotels or restaurants as the ones we visited weren't featured in the book) and Angkor Wat, and my only negative comment would be one which applies to all Rough Guides. When visting a complex of lots of temples of ruins such as Angkor, I personally find that the layout makes it hard to work out which are the major sites. . The Rough Guide to Cambodia (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
by: Beverley Palmer
July 25, 2002
This is a dreadful book. It is uninspiring. There are few photographs. The format is exceptionally dull - pages and pages of writing. What really made me choke though was the section about Pailin (p 140): "..long-term Pailin residents still reminisce about the Khmer Rouge years, when education and healthcare were available and food was given to the old and needy". What absolute rubbish. The sort of education that the Khmer Rouge gave is very well known about - communist indoctrination. As for food, well, perhaps it was a different Cambodia where so many people died of starvation, caused entirely by the Khmer Rouge. Then again, perhaps the author simply doesn't know what she is talking about. This book is gutter trash. Don't ... Read More:
