This was an absolutely invaluable book for our last holiday in Kefalonia. I have to be honest I was more interested in the eating than the walking because when we last went to Kefalonia the food was pretty average and I wanted to find some good restaurants. We went to a lot of the featured restaurants and they were all fantastic, especially Arkondiko in Argostoli and Sunset Taverna (when we found it) in Poros. We even ended up doing some of the walks, especially the ones that went to historical sites. The walk to Assos castle was wonderful, I was so glad we followed the book advice and didn't toil miles up the zig zagging main path, especially as there is not much to see when you get there!

I'm a long time fan of the original Dune books; I first read and enjoyed Dune back in the Seventies when I was still at school. I enjoyed Kevin Anderson & Brian Herbert's prequels, but I have found the sequels less satisfying. This climax to the saga was the most disappointing. There is the spin that the story has been created from Frank Herbert's notes for the conclusion of the story, but I just don't believe it. Without spoilers it difficult to say exactly why this book disappoints - basically it takes all the threads from all the books that have come before and tries to tie them together into an ultimate conclusion, but fails. A really useful little guide - it's little, so you can take it out on those walks; it's really useful, because it has some very good (though rather short) walks in it, and the directions/route notes are very good indeed. It took us to some valleys we would never have discovered without this book, such as the valley 'behind' Lindos which is really beautiful. The Efta Piges walk was good, but sadly the tracks have become a bit more impinged-upon by walls and fences. The Stegna walk is great - so good we did it twice in a week!
We tried a few of the restaurants in the book as well and again agree with the authors.
Only problem - the interesting-sounding walls-of-old-Rhodos are closed for refurbishment - do visit the website mentioned in the book for updates. ... Read More:

I've now read all the dune books and loved them all. With Dune I always thought of it like Shogun in space.It's not SF like Asimov and Clarke etc,it's more royal feudal histories set in a very distant future.Where the father left off ,his son and Kevin J continued and brought a wonderful legends and prequel series to explain many of the historical aspects in Frank's series. THey then continued on where chapterhouse ended and thr results have been more of the same great reading.They have an easy style of writing which gives the reader the sense that he /she always know where they are in the multiple timelines that the plots of the books weave.Not many writers can do this well and these two do it very well. Frank Herbert hinted at the Butlerian Jihad in his original Dune novel as the 100+ year war that saw humanity defeat thinking machines. The Legends of Dune trilogy is an attempt to fill-out this backstory. I waited until I had read all 3 books before writing a review. There are so many superfluous threads in these novels that would have made the whole thing much more believable had they have been omitted. Primary the Cymeks, the living brains of rathers nasty ex-humans. They are entirely pointless in the whole scheme of things and take up several hundred pages over the three novels. At the very least their role could have been played down.
