. Operation Bluecoat (Battleground Europe)
by: Ian Daglish
June 06, 2002
This review was wriiten for a wargaming fanzine, the game is "Advanced Squad Leader." Some references were made in light of this. An old ASL playing friend of mine, Ian Daglish has had a book published in the "Battleground Europe," series from Pen & Sword. These are slim paperbacks which deal with various battles in NW Europe in considerable detail and also have an eye to the reader going on a battlefield tour to see for themselves what the ground looks like today. Most of the battlefields are in NW Europe and nearly half the books in the paperback series listed on the back page are based in Normandy. These are available readily enough in good bookshops. After the success of D Day, progress inland had been frustratingly ... Read More:

. Goodwood: Over the Battlefield
by: Ian Daglish
March 30, 2005
This book brings a dimension to understanding the battlefield that is not often available with such clarity. The battle narrative, which includes many primary accounts from both sides, is analysed against a series of remarkable air reconnaissance photographs that indicate exactly where the main actions of Operation Goodwood actually happened. These not only show the routes taken by tank units but also the topographical features that compressed the action against key defensive points, and the resulting destruction of British tanks. These photographs clear much of the `fog of war' in terms of identifying the timeframe for actions that otherwise can be confused when reading war diaries and personal accounts.
The appendixes are highlights of clarity, ... Read More:

. Operation EPSOM, Over the Battlefield
by: Ian Daglish
June 21, 2007
Here once again, is yet another successful title from the excellent Over the Battlefield series of books from Pen and Sword. This particular volume covers Operation Epson-the first of Montgomery's major battles that marked a turning point in Normandy Campaign.
Up until then odds were very much in favour of the enemy launching a counter attack and therefore threatening the allied bridgehead! Although well trained, the British forces, had only recently arrived in Normandy and were relatively inexperienced compared to the much superior enemy they now faced. In fact, many experts actually consider our opponents to have been the best equipped and most experienced combat formations of the German Army. Fighting in dense terrain and on the slopes ...
