.Italian Riviera and Piedmont (Cadogan Guide Italian Riviera & Piemonte) by: Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls November 25, 2005 There seems to be only 2 or 3 books around which cover this region of Italy in any detail. This one is clearly written with the most passion and genuine local knowledge. The historical background to the region is very detailed and, for a travel guide, not too dry. The suggestions the writers make e.g. places to eat, historical buildings, markets, I have always found to be accurate and trustworthy. The book is laid out intuitively too, starting in the west and working east through the region making places easy to locate. I think the key to really enjoying this region is exploring. .Dordogne and the Lot (Cadogan Guide Dordogne, the Lot & Bordeaux) by: Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls May 18, 2007 I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. I've always found the Cadogan guides written by Facaros and Pauls brilliant. Yes, they lack the pictures that you get in an Eyewitness guide, for example, but they more than make up for that in the quality of the text: it is detailed without being heavy, and fun without being stupid. To me, they strike the right balance between historical and architectural information and foodie indulgence. I bought this to replace my copy of the third edition which has now fallen apart through over use. I rate their stuff so highly that I now look to see if they have written a guide to a place I intend to visit. In a perfect world I'd have one of these and a corresponding Eyewitness guide - but if I only had room ... .Northern Spain (Cadogan Guides) by: Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls March 20, 2006 ..I've found this book invaluable on several trips to Cantabria. It's just so thorough - My husband is from Santander and knows the area inside out, but still finds this book includes places to visit that he's never been to. Dane Facaros and Michael Pauls have a very humorous writing style that is occasionally wryly critical, but usually with good reason! In all our excursions from Santander we've found the restaurant and hotel listings incredibly reliable. .Corsica (Cadogan Guides) by: Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls February 25, 2008 If you are obsessed with history, ancient monuments, architecture and relics this is probably the book for you. As a tourist guide, to tell what is worth seeing/photographing, i.e the aesthetics, I find it virtually useless. It does give routes, with some warnings about where congestion may occur in the summer and identify some parking spaces, but the rest is generally vague and somewhat inconsistent. Even the restaurant prices are given in Francs, in a used copy which may not be the latest edition but a book with a 2001 copyright. This review is in the context of having already booked accomodation and wanting to plan a detailed itinerary, with intensive and diverse photography in mind, in advance, this being my standard ...
