Dave Gorman for me is one of the founding fathers of the recent quest comedy novels that have filled my non-fiction shelves. With his `Are you Dave Gorman' and his `Googlewack Adventure' I was entertained and educated. `Unchained America' follows a similar path to these two earlier books, but with some major differences. Gorman has made TV shows out of all of his books, but whilst previously he adapted them using the photos and short films he made himself, this time he goes out to make a documentary. Unfortunately, this means that the book suffers.

they were probably posted by the authors' friends. There is no other explanation for those positive ratings. This is the first book in years I've stopped reading after forcing myself through the first one hundred pages. Boring, boring, boring. Two guys overstretch a very weak story to make a book and they do so by narrating it in such a ghastly way that you start hating yourself for having fallen for the reviewers' hype. I had my doubts but I decided to believe the "readers" ratings. Believe me, there is no way in hell so many people can honestly have found this book to be funny, interesting or in any way readable. This was an enjoyable book to read. It's a book that just goes to show how many truly interesting people there are out there on the internet. It's often a book about unbelievable coincidences and how taking a chance can take you all over the Globe. It's also a book about one man's attempt to avoid working, something I can sympathise with!

The pace of the book is good, particularly towards the end where the chapters are often only 2-3 pages long and it becomes a parade of entertaining, unusual and genuinely intriguing people. And it's definitely the people that make this book enjoyable and entertaining, rather than Gorman's need to complete this book. If anything, his constant attempts to engage our sympathy are a down point, if only a minor one.

Brilliant! The whole family really enjoy listening to these cd's, Including my 9 year old who loves them despite not understanding all the humour as some of the ideas may be slightly over his head. We always have them in the car for long journeys as you can listen to them again and again and they are still Genius! I would recommend them wholeheartedly.

This book is apparantly the world's first to be democratically elected by its readers. Worth the paltry 5.99 just for the words by Adam's himself and the hilariously cynical "Twenty Schmenty". Also, I believe some of the proceeds go to Comic Relief - so it gets 5 stars from me even if it does have the occasional slightly dull entry.
