. McNae's Essential Law for Journalists
from: OUP Oxford
June 21, 2007
As a working journalist, this is the only book I (and every colleague I've ever worked with on any newsdesk) reach for time and time again. Not only is it bang up to date, it explains all aspects of reporting law clearly and succinctly.
Unsure of what libel is? How to defend against it? Are you in contempt of court? Breaching the Official Secrets Act? Taking photographs of children? Invading somebody's privacy? McNae's knows. And it's written in a way to tell you quickly.
It's known as The Bible in the regional newsrooms I've worked in all my life - and it's easy to see why when you read it. I can't recommend this highly enough: EVERY reporter should have their own copy.

. Higher Mathematics for Edexcel GCSE: Linear
by: David Alcorn, Tony Banks
August 21, 2006
This is quite simply the best GCSE maths text book available in the UK today. It covers all the material from the latest syllabus (whoops, sorry, specification)and has lucid, clear examples, good quality exercises, summary sections and exam style questions. There is also a thinner companion work book type with even more questions. I think that this is better than Rayner and also definitely better than the Edexcel endorsed Heinemann book. If you are a parent or a student looking to secure a good grade, then look no further, if you are in a department, seriously consider this as your adopted text - at least have one copy for reference. (All the above applies to the Higher volume as well).

. McNae's Essential Law for Journalists
by: Tom Welsh, Walter Greenwood, David Banks
June 23, 2005
To the general reader, especially one with a legal education, a very interesting practical guide to the legal constraints on the freedom of the press. If a journalist is told something 'newsworthy' but 'scandalous' by someone about someone else, can the journalist report what he has been told and, if so, in what way?
Reading this book I could understand, for example, why we used to hear nothing at all about a crime once someone had been arrested and charged with it (and had to wait until the trial started to find out what it was all about) but, after the Norwich 'sex worker' murders recently, the TV and the press where able to continue giving us quite a lot of information about the crimes, the victims and the suspect even after he had been ... . "Doctor Who", Cybermen: WITH The Tenth Planet AND The Invasion AND The Origins of the Cybermen (Dr Who)
by: David Banks
November 01, 2004
OK - it was inveitably going to happen, as is the case with all Dalek releases (the BBC obviously testing the water,) a Cyberman release is never far behind. In 2003, to commerate the 40th Anniversary of our favourite Time Lord, there was a Dalek Tin Released, for the 41st, a Cyberman tin is released. Firstly, this set is much better presented than that of 2003s Daleks. The tin size has been made smaller, meaning that the CDs inside don't rattle around and thus make the whole thing seem like a biscuit tin, secondly the art is much more attractive. The Dalek tin was just that - a tin with the word 'Dalek' on it - boring!! This year, the BBC have actually done their research, the new tin is far more aesthetically pleasing. There is an improved ... Read More:
