Found the book a very handy reference for the journey - interesting and well written, with a good deal of practical detail, great value recommendations. Excellent coverage of both cities and more remote areas. The author's own fascination with the country is very contagious. Highly recommended.

We recently made our first trip to Mauritius, armed with a number of travel guides. Lonely Planet's guide was consistently helpful: we knew what to expect, and were provided with a series of tips to get the most from every place we visited.

We had also used it to decide which hotel to stay in before making the trip, and again, it helped us make the right decision according to our budget.

There aren't many photos in the book, which is my only criticism, and is the only reason we felt it necessary to buy other guides - a picture speaks a thousand words, after all. Nevertheless, after a couple of days in resort, this was the only book we used, and I heartily recommend it to anyone even considering a trip to Mauritius.

We tend to travel a lot and we often use the lonely planet books. They are always very useful. However this particular one was very disappointing, a lot of the places of interest are not even listed in the index so you have to go chapter by chapter to read about something. I have just returned from travelling in Bolivia and I just couldn't have travelled so extensively without this guide - great detail, pictures and individual maps for cities. An invaluable asset to any independent traveller who wishes to travel to this fascinating country.
