I recently got hold of a copy of this guide book along with G.H-W's other guide book 'Walking in Andalucía'. Both of the books have helped make my journeys through Southern Spain a truly rich and multi-faceted experience! What is great about the hotel guide is that G.H-W visits every single place himself and his descriptions are lively, often funny, and - most important of all - very truthful. I felt that I almost knew the places before I got there! The style is very much like that of the Sawday 'Specail Places to Stay' guides but instead of just one page G.H-W's guide gives each hotel a double page spread so there is more space for information on food, local excursions etc.

Special places to stay is an excellent companion to any journey around Spain, but it can prove a little dangerous, as its easy to start getting tempted towards exploring some of the more expensive options. although the book does cover a wide range of accomodation from casa rurals right through to converted monastries, it is certainly for the most part not for the budget traveller, although many of the places covered offer very good value for money, and the comprehensive details provided with each special place gives extensive details on what meals and so on are included, and occasionaly recomending specialities.
