. Nepal: A Travel Survival Kit (Lonely Planet Travel Survival Kit)

As me and a friend are planning a round the world trip this series of books has been a great help. In picking places where to go it's helpful to know whats there! Were mainly backpacking and using hostels so specific country guides aimed at this was essential. We needed to know campsites, country entry requirements, cost of living, activities, etiquette, transport options, do's and don'ts and most importantly what the food was like! As well as info on touring in campervans, car or footslogging. The book has it all and more. It covers all such topics and then reviews each place in the country individually. It has topics on law, car rental and purchase, gay and lesbians interests and so much more. If your travelling to this country ... Read More:

. India (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)

and the best guide I've come across for India. Packed with detail and a reasonable cultural/ historical introduction. Maps are great, the timetables are pretty accurate, the opening times and prices are correct...
There are some very bad LP guides out there. Vietnam springs to mind. But LP India has been consistently good throughout the years. I think I've used 4 versions of the guidebook and have been pleased with the improvements everytime.
Obviously the negativities are that it is pretty big but how else are you supposed to cram in all that information.

. Morocco (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)

The LP guide has proven to be more thoroughly insightful than the Rough Guide although as Mark from Manchester states provides less information on the historical nd anthropoligical details. One major criticism of this guide however is that it can be extremely well covered with respect to accommodation in one two (Essouira) and then have barely enough on another; also the price guide offered by the guide actually implies indirecely that the accommodation will be in this price range where in fact the cheaper accomodation is much cheaper than that advertised. Some of the writing can be so close to stereotypical or cliched expression e.g. "Just the name Morocco evokes..." can be at best humerous and at worst off putting and misleading. I do prefer the ... . Morocco (Lonely Planet Country Guide)
by: Geoff Crowther, Hugh Finlay
2001-02
I usually swear by Lonely Planet their books are usually concise and up to date and hardly ever misleading. They are also usually balanced in a way that every budget of traveller can use them. This book though failed on these counts. I felt that this book was not helpful to people travelling on lower budgets. Also I found this book aimed, as a male reader, towards women, this is not an out and out criticism, it is just a departure from the usual Lonely Planet style. Also I found basic information, like locations of ATMs, internet cafes, banks, bus stations and bus timetables, in more out of the way places incorrect. Also its recommendations of lower budget hotels had much to be desired. This book has made me reasses my trust in Lonely ... Read More:

. East Africa (Lonely Planet Travel Guides)
by: Geoff Crowther, Hugh Finlay

This book was invaluable when travelling in East Africa. The layout is easy to understand and it has basic country history, language and local information, as well as information about East Africa in general. There is not as much detain in the single East Africa book as in each individual country book, and although this was in some ways irritating it was useful when making last minute travel plans. Guide books are not widely available in east Africa, but it was easy to change plans to suit our requirements with the book covering the whole area. I would recommend a more specialised book for exploring one country in more depth, or to accompany this one.
