. Head On - Ian Botham: The Autobiography
by: Ian Botham
June 05, 2008
The updated tale of Sir Ian Botham OBE, England's beefiest ever cricketer, is a good read - an open, revealing and well written "autobiography". Unlike Botham's previous foray into the genre, "Don't tell Kath", no ghost is credited - the publishers say only that Botham had "editorial assistance"- but it is difficult to believe that there was one skilled writer who had a firmly guiding hand on the text. Whoever that was has done an excellent job.
In 1983 Botham was having a lean spell and some in the media were calling for him to be dropped. At a press conference England captain Bob Willis responded to these calls by asking "Which two players do you gentlemen suggest we should bring in to replace him?" This sums up the unique feature ... . Botham: My Autobiography
by: Ian Botham, Peter Hayter
June 05, 2000
This is a slick, ghost written set of apologies for Ian Botham's larger than life antics which certainly had me laughing.
Let's be clear, Botham is the best cricketer England has produced since the War, maybe before that too, I don't know. His charity walks are fantastic and the guy deserves a knighthood, but oh how he lacks self-control.
A fairly standard chug through his early years is followed by some tortuous prose about the various 'controversies' including the discovery of cannabis in a raid on his home and the libel action he took out against Imran Khan.
The stuff about the cannabis is laugh out loud. How he took it from someone because it would be rude not to and then forgot to get rid of it. Yeah right. This ranks with ... Read More:

. The Confessions of Robin Askwith
by: Robin Askwith
September 02, 1999
Spoiled by poor writing and what appears to be a complete lack of any editing (a good few sentences make no sense whatsoever) and proof-reading. Mis-spelling is rife, with Mr Askwith managing to get the titles of films wrong, including "A Clockwork Orange" and his own film debut "If...."!
Otherwise, a good read. The usual celebrity anecdotes combined with much namedropping give a good flavour of the Saucy Seventies, although Mr Asquith does seem to want to identify himself strongly with his "Confessions" character Timmy Lea.
Definitely worth reading for anyone interested in the British cinema of the 1970s, particularly of the naughty variety... :-)

. Mad Dogs and the Englishman
by: David English
September 04, 2003
This is one of those autobiographies that just grab you with humor and tales of luck and sheer talent. David English is only remarkable in that he comes from a fairly modest background and simply did what he wanted. It seemed that everything just fell into place. Starting from an early age, Mr. English humorously describes his schoolboy years and carries through to his incredibly successful career as one of the most successsful independent record labels in the world - RSO. Void of any conceit or arrogance, English tells a tale of extraordinary success and the amazing people he met along the way. Imagine becoming close friends with George Harrison, The Bee Gees, Phil Collins and dozens more? There are fantastic stories of joining in on film sets, acting in stage ... Read More:
