.Louis XIV by: Ian Dunlop October 21, 1999 This was a very enjoyable book to read. I haven't read many books on Louis XIV (the only other was Vincent Cronin's dated Louis XIV), but this book has given me an interest in the king. As a previous reviewer points out, a genealogy of the Bourbon family and a map of Europe, including those for Louis's wars and campaigns, would have not gone amiss. Despite that Dunlop brings Louis and his court to life. The descriptions of Versailles and other of Louis's residences are superb, even though, for me, he did go into too much detail with architecture and descriptions of Louis's palaces.
