Being young and having only briefly covered WWII in history class back in my high school days i knew very little about it, other than the well known facts. That being until i read this book. Not only do you get detailed accounts of evaders but also of missions and events going on at the time. I now found myself contributing the knowledge into conversations. Some of the stories make you feel very proud and try and think of ways you can give people the same feeling when reading your biography in 60 years! By far the best book i have read this year.

I was given this book by an ex WW2 POW, 89 years of age who spent nearly five years in three prison camps in the Silesia area of Poland. I agreed to ghostwrite his book after listening to his incredible story. "Do The Birds Still Sing in Hell?" will be released by Libros International around September 2008. This book provided invaluable research and along with the first hand accounts from my 'old soldier' Horace Greasley, I began to build up a picture of the hell that these unsung heroes went through. These men were little forgotten during WW2, an unfortunate statistic compiled by various governments and occassionally supported from time to time by the Red Cross and delegates from Geneva to see that the rules to their 'convention' were being upheld. This book is a real insight into the RAF and the run up of the Golf War. Neither men portray themselves as `heroes' nor do they pretend to make up a story to give the impression they were some kind of James Bond.

They tell a terrifying story of being shot down and captured. Both explain their expectation of being killed and the joys of being released. Sorry to use to the pun, but this book is difficult to put down once started and I would recommend it to all. Trilling, terrifying and insightful, this book is one of the best I have read!
