.Pigeon Greek: Almost Get by in...Greek: Almost Get by In...Greek by: Kenneth Griffiths May 01, 2000 This is in the form of a fold-out card containing 2 explanation pages and three further perforated cards that can be separated for ease of use. It will be most useful to people with no knowledge of French. The way it is written is aimed at people who want to be able to say basic phrases that actually sound right! The words are written phonetically, exactly as they should sound, and not written in French. For example, "sil vous plait" (please) is spelt "sil-voo-play" and "merci" (thank you) is spelt "mersee". Brilliant idea, and also no cheating and pointing at the word, beacause a French person may not understand it. The only downside, is that if you do have a smattering of French it can be very confusing not seeing the proper spellings, but ... You get three post cards, the first one has friendly noises, so yes, no please and thank you, as well as useful words, such as "toilet," that one was so useful this book nearly got 5 stars. The second postcard is "out and about" and has lots of useful words that when added to those on card one, you can make short simple sentences and be understood. All the Spanish words are writen as they would be pronounced in English making it easy to be brave and speak out. The third post card is a menu card. It has a list of things that you will see on a menu and its English translation. As a vegetarian I found this one useful as the last thing I needed was a plate of somthing that I won't eat. The ...
