This had me giggle and reading pieces out to my husband who almost tore it out of my hands to read. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to see the reality of Irish modern Language and culture and Irish English. Although it does miss out on some things for a small book it does capture a lot of Ireland and the Irish. It was interesting to see how sometimes those phrases I take for granted are actually Irishisms.

It has a little bit with the Irish Language but most of the book is actually about English as spoken in Ireland. Most of the Irish/Gaeilge in the book is actually useful conversational Irish.

I would recommend this book to writers looking to capture modern Ireland and Irish people.

This book is part of my BA litterature. I find some of the concepts of Marx and Weber extremely difficult to understand, but Hughes & al help to clarify difficult concepts and put things in order for me. I like the background information on all three theorists because this makes it easier to place their theories in a context.

This is a large book- over 1000 pages, and it aims to be a single, comprehensive guide to Britain. It begins with a section on travel advice such as tips about safety, information about currency and safety and information about travelling to Britain and within Britain. Basically, information for before you travel. But I would question the appeal of this kind of printed material. All this information can be found out quite easily online, and online sources are naturally much more up to date.

In the intro, and throughout the book, they make remarkable generalisations. "English pubs general..." " The British public usually..." I hope people don't take this too seriously!

This book is as close as I'll ever get to understanding life, the universe and everything else, so not quite 42.

From the beginnings of the universe with the Big Bang, this book takes us on a journey through our own solar system, the Milky Way and beyond employing some of the most stunning photographs I have ever seen, and clear and concise illustrations where photography is impossible.

This is a "must have" book.... not just for people interested in astronomy, this book is for everyone and a truly humbling read.

As a sometimes user of all the books in this series, I would say they are probably most useful to those already pretty familiar with the Scots dance music repertoire, who are looking for a reference of fairly easy tunes. The question of accuracy in traditional music is always a vexed one, as many different versions and arrangements of tunes may have validity, but I think many would agree that these books leave considerable scope for improvement in that area.
So the price is reasonable, and the books are handy if you don't take them too literally, and have enough experience to occasionally read between the lines.
