I'm sure this book will be great for alot of people, however, it isn't right for me. Most of the recipes are too complicated & time consuming for me, I'm not an expert cook and though its a book for Dummies I'm not brave enough to try the recipes. I have never heard of alot of the ingredients and wouldn't have a clue where to buy them. I was looking for tasty mexican food which wouldn't take hours to prepare. For someone who is a confident cook with a good supply of unusual ingredients I'm sure it will fit the bill.

I was impressed by the simplicity of these recipes. Unlike others I've tried, this book calls for simple ingredients that can easily be found at your local grocery store (even in rural Idaho). The authors walk you through the basics of making your own tortillas and salsas. You then can incorporate these into more complicated recipes. Above all... the food turns out delicious even in the hands of a novice.

I have owned City Cuisine since it was published back in 1989. I have made many of the reciepies in this book and each one is superb, I'm getting a reputation for being an excellent cook. The baby back ribs are to die for. Last night I made cold soba noodles, chopped tofu with parsley and Gateau Benoit. It's tough to cook something special for those vegetarians-these people will be back-well they are family after all. Try the hostess style cupcakes. Yum yum yum.

This is a great book for those of us who want to get the real flavours of Mexican food whilst using authentic traditional techniques. There is a lot of useful basic information which I have never seen anywhere else. The recipes that are in the book are tasty and easy to prepare.

It gives advice on ingredients like the wonderful chili and the superb pinto bean.

All in all this is the perfect book for those who are just starting to cook the Mexican way.
