. The Rough Guide to Switzerland - Edition 3
by: Matthew Teller
July 27, 2006
I am a big fan of Rough Guides but this is the worst one I've come across. I can only assume that the author works for the Swiss travel services given his bias towards using public transport, not only for travel but also for shopping and eating! The railway station cafes were no better than UK ones and the shops open no later than others in town. His negative comments about driving are totally misplaced, car parking was easy (and no more expensive than the UK) and the roads were excellent, while petrol was cheap. In fact in most small villages there was free parking and even in the cities we didn't encounter any queuing. Having spoken to a friend who visits Switzerland regularly he couldn't understand the books comments at all.

. The Rough Guide to Switzerland (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
by: Matthew Teller
May 29, 2003
but I couldn't find anything better for Switzerland.
I love Rough Guides but I was frankly disappointed with the Switzerland book. It was just missing some of the essentials that others books had like where is a laundry or internet cafe and marking that on the map rather than just giving an address.
And the accommodation suggestions were not as useful as in other RGs. And there is less information of interest i.e. local facts, anecdotes and history.
Hopefully, RG will address these in the next edition. I do note that Lonely Planet book was not good either and both are a bit out of date published 2003 / 4.
But, it got me around Switzerland in one piece and I will still be buying RGs.

. The Chrysalids (Penguin Audiobooks)
by: John Wyndham
October 31, 1996
We think that Wyndham's book 'The Chrysalids' was an extraordinary book with amazing descriptions. This book would be suitable for people of 11 years and upwards. Some of the ideas are quite challenging, but we read it in class, and were able to have discussions about some of these elements, for example whether the Great Horses were a deviation or not.
The book starts with David's dream of a calm sea, and a shining city with flying fish shaped machines, but this is a world that the people of Waknuk have never seen. The introduction made us think initially that the book might be a little boring, but then we met Sophie. Sophie is a normal, fun loving girl...or is she...
'The Chrysalids' is great because it doesn't give us all of the ... Read More:
