. The Game
by: Neil Strauss
December 06, 2007
What a discovery!!! I bought this book as part of some research for my own book and I was very pleasantly surprised.
I never made the connection that Mr Strauss was the co-author of the much lauded Motley Crue's "The Dirt".
Ok, the stories in this book may seem a bit stretched or hard to believe, but hey, it's Americans we are talking about. What I have to say is that reading this book made me look back on my failures and successes at picking women, and it was almost uncanny to read word by word where I went right and wrong.
The Game is a bit of a cross between Queer Eye For The Straight Guy cum Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus cum any rock and roll tale of debauchery you care to think of.

. The Rules of the Game: The Stylelife Challenge and the Style Diaries
by: Neil Strauss
December 18, 2007
I read, and absolutely loved, 'The Game' by the same author, Neil Strauss so I was looking forward to reading his second book, The Rules of The Game. Overall I would say that I enjoyed the book, and would recomend it, however there were some flaws, and it definitely wasn't as good as The Game.
Strauss attempts to deliver a one size fits all dating remedy for men across the world and the result is quite hit and miss. Some of the 'missions' that the book adivises one to attempt are pretty pointless, and will not be relevant for a lot of people. I also agree with some of the other reviews which mention the comic book style stories at the back of the book. These are quite fun to read but are nothing amazing, and they certainly don't offer much ... Read More:

. The Game
by: Neil Strauss
July 06, 2006
I have a few friends who have shared it around in order to have more confidence with the fairer sex. They are all good people, a world away from the 'scumbags' that some of the hypocritical ignorant negative reviews have spoken of (the same people who hated the generalisations of women in the book itself), and within a few weeks they'd ALL managed to find potential long-term girlfriends. Therefore, I might as well give it a go.

. The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists
by: Neil Strauss
2005-09
Strauss had written 1/2 of a fascinating account of the subculture of pickup artists, and how he transformed himself into one of the best (or so he says...). Whether it's strictly true or not, the story is entertaining and funny and odd, but halfway through this book really goes downhill.
I was slightly put off by the objectification of women in the beginning also. I didn't like the chase, the hunt, the scoring, the comparing notes. I thought anyone who signed up for a seminar to become a predator was a big loser (and many of them were, in fact, big losers). Then I started to look at the techniques as a way to "win friends and influence people" instead of score with chicks. Many of the techniques have to do with being charismatic and comfortable in new situations ... Read More:

. Long Hard Road Out of Hell
by: Marilyn Manson, Neil Strauss
June 30, 1998
Being a fan of Marilyn Manson for many years now I had been very interested to read the autobiography in an attempt to actually, truly understand the man and how he came to be what he is. When I finally had the money (I don't have much money) I bought the book and was very excited to finally read it (so excited that I read it in a day). Upon reading the book, wow, fascinating stuff here, everything you could possibly want to know about his origins are in this book and even passages on the band's journey into the mainstream and the work before the "Sweet Dreams" cover in 1996 including the controversy of "My Monkey" and the problems and successes that came with working with Trent Reznor. Chapters on his childhood, his growing up, his good experiences, his bad experiences, losing ... Read More:

. Don't Try This at Home
by: Dave Navarro, Neil Strauss
November 03, 2005
Got this as I was a fan of Navarro and of some of Strauss' other work (Manson, Motley cru etc) but this is just dull dull dull. In fact i got so bored i never finished it. It is basically a picture book (wow look at all the Celebs I hang out with...yawn) with a diary element to it. Maybe I have missed something but i found it pretty much rubbish... shame as I have heard Navarro has had quite a life and a proper autobiography (which this had been marketed as I'm sure) would surely make for a compelling read. This however, a diary set in probably the least creative part of his career, is not.
