.Where to Mountain Bike in Britain by: Nicky Crowther April 13, 2004 Most guide books simply give selected routes and maps, this one is refreshingly different. It lists areas within the UK where there is good biking, tells you what the riding's like there, what maps you need and suggests routes in very broad terms. You then need to get the relevent maps out and plan a detailed route yourself. The downside of this is you need to competent in map reading but the plus side is the guide book covers the whole UK. My only criticism is that the indexing could be better. You go to the map of England, Scotland, Wales or NI and then pick a number off the map and look up where exactly it is. It begins with a section on travel advice such as tips about safety, information about currency and safety and information about travelling to Britain and within Britain. Basically, information for before you travel. But I would question the appeal of this kind of printed material. All this information can be found out quite easily online, and online sources are naturally much more up to date. In the intro, and throughout the book, they make remarkable generalisations. "English pubs general..." " The British public usually..." I hope people don't take this too seriously! Also this book is not re-written, it is simply ... .The Birmingham Cycle Guide by: Nicky Crowther April 06, 2004 Spiral bound and conveniently sized, this is a superb book for any Brum cyclist. Clear and easy to follow routes, taking in much of B'ham & Black country's famous (Venice) canals and waterways. Each route is clearly identified, with total length, of which how many km on road ,km off road, places of interest along the way, and graded and even if suitable for the children. We intend to "explore " these routes as a family and get fitter at the same time. Best of all, most of these routes we actaully drive OVER several times a day and we didn't know they existed ! .Classic Mountain Bike Rides: Thirty of the World's Most Spectacular Trails by: Nicky Crowther 2001-04 Spiral bound and conveniently sized, this is a superb book for any Brum cyclist.
