.Ballet Shoes: A Story of Three Children on the Stage (Puffin Books) by: Noel Streatfeild March 31, 2004 It really is a classic that I think will survive a long time. It's not challanging and very sweet and on the whole very enjoyable. I read it in one evening when I when I had the flu in bed and it kept me entertained so much that I finished it! Well-researched, Noel Streatfeild spent several seasons with the circus before writing 'Circus Shoes' and she brings the circus scene vividly to life. The story is about two orphaned siblings, Peter and Santa who are left homeless when their Aunt dies. To avoid being separated and sent off to different orphanages they run away to try and find an Uncle who used to send a card each Christmas. Their only hope is to find this Uncle Gus, but this isn't so easy as he's part of a circus, so constantly on the move. .Dancing Shoes by: Noel Streatfeild May 04, 1995 I received a copy of this book some forty years ago! It was then published as "Wintle's Wonders", which I think is a much more interesting and appropriate title for the book than "Dancing Shoes", as it refers to the children's dancing troupe run by Rachel's Aunt, Mrs. Wintle,which the orphaned Rachel and her adopted sister Hilary are obliged to join. I adored the book when I first read it and I am not ashamed to admit that I still re-read it from time to time and adore it just as much. The characterisation is superb, the plot has some interesting and unpredictable twists to it, and the whole story works out most satisfactorily at the end.
