.Central Europe (Lonely Planet Multi Country Guide) by: Paul Smitz February 01, 2007 I used this book for an inter-railing trip in the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Slovenia, and on the whole found it very useful. The transport information was fairly thorough, but I also had to rely quite a bit on webistes (which were pointed out by the book). I generally went by their accommodation recommendations, which were good on the whole, although there was definitely one choice in Slovenia I wouldn't visit again! It covers all the basics of what to see and do, where to stay, and where to eat with more depth than a guide to the whole of Europe would. There is also quite a bit of cultural information for each country, and some key phrases. I travelled Oz and Tas on it, as do most other travellers. If you want a guide book, go get one, this will tell you everything in a concise way - as this is what a traveller needs. There are many other books out there, rough guides etc, but trust me everyone who is anyone uses lonly planet. They are far from perfect, but it has everything u need in it, prices, phone numbers, how to get around, itineries etc. For the reviwer who said it doesnt have iteneries, did most definatly does - near beginning. but you do have to cross reference each point to other points in the book, there isnt space to repeat stuff!! .Tasmania (Lonely Planet Regional Guides) by: John Chapman, Monica Chapman October 01, 2002 If you're just going to Tassie, this is the best book you could take along with you! No need to lug around the big, heavy Australia edition of LP... Tassie deserves a trip of its own... several weeks at least! This guide book gives lots of insightful data on places to visit and stay, not so well known activities (bushwalking trails, spots for scuba-diving...) as well as the more touristic stuff. Reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it needs to be updated a bit: some e-mail/web pages need updating, as do most of the prices. In Feb 2004 hotel/hostel prices were quite a bit higher than those mentioned in the book. Also, would be nice a little more about the flora and fauna...
