. A Quiet Belief in Angels
by: R.J. Ellory
January 02, 2008
I bought this book to take to Egypt with me earlier this year. I usually take Jackie collins and other light reading material but as I had thoroughly enjoyed other Richard and Judy recommendations I took this. I could not put it down!!! In my opinion it was cleverly written and rarely for a book, kept you guessing until the end. Yes, it is sad and yes, at times the over description could get a bit tedious but I found that was because I just wanted to get to the end to see exactly what the climax of the story was. One of my holiday party, only ninteen years of age, read it after myself and couldnt put it down. I thouroughly recommend this book.

. A Simple Act of Violence
by: R.J. Ellory
October 02, 2008
I may have only written a few book reviews for Amazon and they are all for books written by Roger Ellory. There is nothing to be ashamed about here, I am indeed a massive fan of his work, and if a review can get one more person to read an Ellory novel, then it is a job well done.
Roger Ellory doesn't write simple novels. They are vast in scope and character and although they share a similar theme, human nature, human relationships and the analysis of human behaviour against all odds, they are all vastly different.
A thriller novel, normally formulaic with the classic question of "Who did it?" concluding with a twist and the grand unveiling of the perpetrator by the novels chief protagonist. A Simple Act of Violence couldn't ... Read More:

. A Quiet Vendetta
by: R.J. Ellory
March 08, 2006
After reading A QUIET BELIEF IN ANGELS by Ellory, I was struck rigid by its intensity and fine storytelling.
And here, yet again, I'm left absolutely dumbfounded by Ellory's masterful Mafia story, which drags you in on a non-stop turbo-charged maelstrom of action from beginning to end.
Not for the feint-hearted, as significant and insignificant characters are ruthlessly dispatched with the maximum of violence, that on occasions makes you wince as the full description sifts through to your brain.
But this is no ordinary tale to be simply dismissed as a mafia tale - this is a full-on no-holds barred confession of a man with a real axe to grind.
The ending is worth the entrance fee alone, and cleverly lifts the roof off of ... Read More:

. Ghostheart
by: R.J. Ellory
January 17, 2005
Along with many others I have been investing in R J Ellory's back-catalogue in response to his hugely successful fifth novel A Quiet Belief in Angels. Ghostheart is his second novel, and again it is clear that he has a broad and diverse talent, because he has the unusual ability to tell a tale in a different style to all of his others whilst retaining his own indelible signature and personal identity. And this is such an intelligently written story that I felt tempted to read it all over again as soon as I had finished.
Essentially there are three men in the life of central character Annie O'Neill: her friend and neighbour Jack, her new lover David, and her late father Frank O'Neill. And although a huge amount of time is allocated to the two living characters, ... Read More:

. City of Lies
by: R.J. Ellory
July 05, 2007
I am sorry to disagree with the other reviewers, but I was really disappointed with this book. I absolutely loved Quiet Belief in Angels and could not recommend it nearly enough. I therefore thought that this book would be another triumph but that was not the case. I found this book unbelievable and written in a very irritating style - so much so that I didn't even finish it. While the tone of 'Quiet Belief' was perfectly pitched, I can only think that Ellory watched too much Sopranos before embarking on this and he doesn't quite hit the mark.

. A Simple Act of Violence
by: R.J. Ellory
October 02, 2008
It's difficult to know where to start with one of the finest thriller novels I have ever read.
So let's begin with a simple statement of belief. This book is even better than the best selling A Quiet Belief in Angels. I really cannot recommend this one highly enough and Roger Ellory just gets better and better.
This novel is full of twists and turns, dead ends, leads that seem to go nowhere. On the simplest level it's a murder detective novel. But on a much higher level it's about corruption, greed, hatred but also the power of good. Some of the suggestions made in the book would have huge ramifications for the USA if they were found to be true - that's how good this book is.
One thing is certain - nothing is quite what it seems. In Detective Robert Miller ... Read More:

. A Quiet Belief In Angels (CD)
