.Bake: From Cookies to Casseroles, Fresh from the Oven

This is a great book, I now have three of Rachel's books and this is by far my favourite. In response to the previous review, this book does have some casseroles (lemon and garlic chicken), maybe not all in the traditional slow cooked meat and veg sense but there are other great baked meals such as sausage and bean bake, cottage pie, lasagne and mediterranean pasta bake. I think it was a bit unfair to give the book 1 star based on the fact that it has no casseroles, especially as quite obviously that is not what the book is solely about. For casseroles and stews I would recommend Sophie Conran's Soups and Stews

Once again, Rachel has written a book with recipes that you will actually be able to use in everyday life, not just when you've got the time to do some specialist shopping and spend hours in the kitchen. The book is called "favourite food at home" and that's just what you get, if you're looking for something more fiddly or to impress your guests with your brilliant cooking techniques, you should look somewhere else (Gary Rhodes is my tip here). But if all you want is good family meals, this book really gives you a wide variety of choice and you won't be dissapointed. A lot of the recipes can be got from the web but for the pictures and the recipes themselves buy yourself the book (or better still, buy for he/she who lurks in the kitchen area). The chocolate brownie recipe is a personal favourite featuring their inspired use of raspberries and (as they keep for ages) you don't really have to share them with anyone else.

This is the first book of Rachel Allen I bought and I liked it so much, I bought all the other books too. If you're looking for some great recipes to entertain, this is the book you need, you'll find something for practically every occasion: "Christmas Dinner", "Romantic Dinner for Two", "Party Food", "Summer Lunch", "Midweek Supper Party", "Formal Dinner Party", "Sunday Lunch", "Big Family Lunch", "Girl's Night In", "Chocolate", "Barbecue", "Curry Night" and "Afternoon Tea". The book doesn't contain a lot of glossy photographs, but I don't feel you really need them with this book, the recipes are clear enough. I bought all of Rachel's books so far and they're all excellent - easy to follow recipes for many occasions. These are cookery books for people with a normal busy life (meaning you don't have the time to spend all day shopping and cooking) who still want good food. There always are some recipes that you can knock up even when you can't really be bothered to cook at all, like "Gremolata Sauce for Pasta", which doesn't even require any actual cooking (apart from the pasta you've only got to chop and mix). The perfect kind of convenience food - fresh, quick and without the nasty stuff you so often find in ready made meals. This book is a must read for all customer managers. It spells out what should be blindingly obvious to all those working to satisfy customers; that a business sinks or swims on how well it treats the people buying the service, using the service or buying the product. Hill et al describes how to really make the customer the centre of all business activity. I throughly recommend this highly readable and useful book both to business managers and students of customer service alike.

This so called useful diary has a mere three lines of space for each day. There's more space to write on my calander. Not even useful as an appointment book, let alone as described.

It's a real shame because the diary is really well designed and on high quality paper. If there had been less padding and more space it would have been first rate.
