. Fahrenheit 451 (Flamingo modern classics)
by: Ray Bradbury
August 16, 1993
I've been checking out some of the classics that I never gave a chance while in high school, now that I'm a much more aware and mature reader. "Fahrenheit 451" was something I always wanted to read but never got around to it. Well, I have finally read it and the time was very much well spent. Ray Bradbury offers a bleak and dim future where thinking for yourself is against the law. Guy Montag's life had always been simple. He understood the order of things, and he understood the nature of his job. He was a fireman, and that entailed burning books and burning down the buildings that hid them. He never questioned it once and never felt guilty for what he was doing. Things take a different route when he meets a peculiar girl who asks ... Read More:

. The Martian Chronicles (Flamingo modern classics)
by: Ray Bradbury
September 11, 1995
I know I seem to be in a minority but I really don't understand what all the fuss is about with this book as I found it a very incoherent and, at times, nonsensical read. The title promises much, I was expecting a fascinating account of life on Mars from the point of view of newly arrived colonists. But what I got is a bunch of surreal and disjointed short stories that I struggled to make any sense of. The book's certainly not the traditional sci-fi storytelling you'd expect from a book of this era, I found it very weird and not particularly enjoyable.

. The Illustrated Man (Flamingo Modern Classics)
by: Ray Bradbury
November 13, 1995
"Eighteen illustrations, eighteen tales." "The illustrations came to life..."
A man is encountered who has skin Illustrations all over his body. Each illustration represents a tale from the future. The illustrations come to life and tell a tale of doom or impending doom. In this way ray Bradbury can tell related but different tales in this book. Its Bradbury's writing style and dialogue that holds you as much as the storyline.
At first they are intriguing and fresh. Later they don't as much repeat but are similar in form and function.
One of the best "The Veldt" is first. Of course everyone will have a different favorite.
I suggest that you make your cats leave the room if you read out loud.

. Halloween Tree
by: Ray Bradbury
August 28, 2007
Opening this book is like opening a present. Originally published in 1972, publisher Alfred A. Knopf has printed a new hardcover edition. The dust-jacket is beautifully illustrated, the book is of an unusual size. Everything about it says "special."
Inside, I was not disappointed. Bradbury swept me away with his opening scene:
"It was a small town by a small river and a small lake in a small northern part of a Midwest state. There wasn't so much wilderness around you couldn't see the town. But on the other hand there wasn't so much town you couldn't see and feel and touch and smell the wilderness. The town was full of trees. And dry grass and dead flowers now that autumn was here. And full of fences to walk on and sidewalks to skate on and ... Read More:

. Fahrenheit 451
by: Ray Bradbury
October 01, 1992
Yes, this is a classic, dystopian and intelligent sci-fi. But what it also is, is lacking from litterary qualities and political subtlety. This is a quite clumsily disguised piece of propaganda. Although I agree with Ray about the evil of censorship and state anti-intellectuality, I don't need him to tell me so. Nor am I sitting here reviewing his political agenda, but a book, which should be judged on its own merits rather than the political ideas it promotes. And as far as books go, this really isn't that fascinating, rather a lame mix between an action-story and a cilvil liberties manifesto.
Ironically, many who salute this book do so solely for its noble purpose. The idea that books should be valued from their political benefits is the very same aspect on litterature ... Read More:

. A Sound of Thunder and Other Stories
by: Ray Bradbury
2005-09
Obviously, A Sound of Thunder and Other Stories is a collection of short stories. Shouldn't take a genius to work that one out.
However, nothing can change the fact that this is yet another repackaging of Bradbury's short stories. There have already been too many.
What is needed is a collected edition, rounding up all the stories haphazardly scattered amongst the hundred or so different, or not so different, editions of his work.
This is just another 'greatest hits'.

. Something Wicked This Way Comes (Fantasy Masterworks)
by: Ray Bradbury
March 09, 2006
I brought this book because it's supposed to be a classic, and though the idea of an "evil carnival" seemed a bit cliche to me, I was hoping that the author would take the idea and do something original and interesting with it.
Instead, all the author did was bore me until I gave up at about page 100. The characters were unlikeable, flat, boring, cardboard cut-outs. I cared nothing for any of them. The plot was bizzare (but not in a good kinda way) and seemed to go nowhere. And the narrative itself was awful. Some people love the style of writing, others hate it. I hate it. It's long-winded, excessive, wordy and failed to convey any sense of atmosphere to me. Whole paragraphs are full with worthless narrative that adds nothing to anything. I only read up to about page ... Read More:

. Fahrenheit 451
by: Ray Bradbury
August 02, 2004
This is a classic tale, which sent shivers down my spine. As someone who loves books it really made me think of a future where I couldn't read the books I loved. Ray Bradbury is my most favourite author and he has an amazing imagination and his books really make you think. A classic book which is a must read.
