.The Unofficial Guide to San Francisco (Unofficial Guides) by: Richard Sterling, Menasha Ridge Press April 11, 2008 I bought this book because I hoped to find insider tips and "secret" advice that only locals know...but found none..I mean the advice is ok and reviews of the hotels and restaurants seem to be accurate as well but there was nothing you would not find in " normal" guides like lonely planet ..Ok Unofficial has ratings for hotels restaurants and attractions but you can get them from many web-sites like tripadviser and yelp.. I've been to SF before and done all the typical touristy stuff..that s why I bought this book and expected to discover hidden gems..but unfortunately found none. .Lonely Planet World Food: Spain by: Richard Sterling, Alison Jones March 01, 2000 The World Food series has to be carefully priced, because although these are attractive books, like nearly all published by Lonely Planet, you don't need them. All guidebooks worth their salt give some space to the food, the markets and restaurants, and so all of these books are effectively an add-on, a luxury - this is unlikely to be the only book you buy. The Spain book in particular feels slightly unnecessary. Unlike Italy, France or India, where the cuisine is hugely developed and highly complex, the food in Spain seems consciously simple, pared-down. Therefore when I used the guide to Portugal I was thrilled at it's content, maps, recommendations & overall informative value.
