. Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Sanction
by: Eric Van Lustbader
August 07, 2008
Bought this book at the airport.............
My first impression of this book was that it was poorly researched. It has some fairly graphic violent scenes that have some cringingly inaccurate injuries that anybody who knows any school biology would not make eg "was struck flush on his third sacral vertebra, which shattered on impact, breaking his back" really?
"He aimed for the underside of the guard's wrist; the nexus of veins that, if severed, would render the hand useless"
All this by page 8-and it goes on.
Unfortunately this made me not "trust" any of the other descriptions of things in the book eg places-immediately I didn't believe what I was reading.
Impersonating a dead author is a good way of making money ... Read More:

. The Bourne Identity
by: Robert Ludlum
May 06, 2004
I am probably one of the few people in the entire world that didn't like this book. I found the first part really well paced and exciting although it was tedious at times and over steps the mark on gritiness and violence. When Ludlum constantly shows Bournes thoughts in italics it just becomes extremly annoying for some reason. Then characters speak in French half the time and you have know idea what's being said or whats going on. I no the whole idea of the book is that you find out more as you go along, but by the time i got to the middle i was too bored, confused and fustrated to read any further. This is just my opinion, probably because i like less complex stories where the authors get straight to the point. Rather than waste time describing ... Read More:

. Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Legacy
by: Robert Ludlum, Eric Van Lustbader
February 03, 2005
unfortunately I will never be able to get back the 20 minutes of my life I wasted reading the first 50 or so pages of this book.
If like me you were a fan of Robert Ludlum's three Bourne novels this will be a great disapointment. Mr Ludlum when constructing his three novels built a central core of four characters who were all essential to the story, David Webb/Jason Bourne, Marie, Conklin and Mo Panov. The last three were the way that David Webb was able to fight his way back from Jason Bourne.
Mr Van Lustbader however managed to kill off two of the three in the first 50 pages!! Then the premise that he used for his story made a total mockery of the original reason that David Webb became Jason Bourne in the first place!!

. The Bourne Supremacy
by: Robert Ludlum
May 06, 2004
If you were hooked with Identity then this book takes the story forward in time, and is good fun. It could do with editing down a bit as I agree it gets a bit slow in the middle but I enjoyed it. I would give Identity 5 stars, Supremacy 3 stars and Ultimatum 4 stars. The films has little to do with the book except the title and Jason Bourne.

. The Parsifal Mosaic
by: Robert Ludlum
February 03, 2005
I have read all Ludlum's books (except the posthumous ones) - this is my favourite, perhaps his best. There is also the "Gemini Contenders" (which gives Dan Brown's Code a run for its money by the way), but still "Parsifal" has that little thing that makes it more clever. Maybe the fact that you actually meet "Parsifal" in the middle of the book in a quite innocuous way, never thinking it might be him, and then at the end, lo and behold ! This moment is like Alice Starling ringing at the door and facing Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. This kind of perfect "this is so clever" emotion is scarce in books. In Parsifal Mosaic Ludlum manages this, this is why it is, in my view, his best.

. The Bourne Ultimatum
by: Robert Ludlum
May 06, 2004
The first book of the trilogy (Identity) is by far the best, and the associated films a disappointment with little to do with the books. This book is good if you enjoyed the first two books, and is a better read than the second. Medusa comes back to life in a new form, and the plots and twists take us to Paris to meet the Jackal, the States and islands to fight off the Mafia, plus most of Europe finally to Russia to the KGB and the "birthplace" of the Jackal. Conklin, Panov are very much part of the Webb family. If anything the story is a bit far fetched, but quite fun and a bit of a send up in a James Bond type style of latter films. The first book was much more worrying and realistic in terms of what the USA intelligence service could get up compared ... Read More:

. The Matarese Circle
by: Robert Ludlum
August 19, 2004
In this book, two 1970s spys (one from the CIA, th other from the KGB) have to come together from oposite sides of the Iron Curtain to fight The Matarese Council, a group of businessmen who try to pit governments against each other in an attempt to gain power, money and influence on both sides of any conflict (a conflict often manufacturered by them).
I'm not alogether sure about this book. On occasions I've read books that have been set in the 1970s and the author often likes to remind the reader about the amount of research he did about the period. There's none of that showing off in this book, because it was written in the 1970s for a 1970s audience (who presumeably knew much of what he was talking about first hand).
Having said that, however, I ... Read More:
